A 64-year-old man has died after being struck on the head by a dislodged excavator bucket tooth while observing construction work in Mueang Buriram district.

The incident occurred at around 13:00 on 10 August near Lam Huai Samor in Sa Kae Sam subdistrict. Mr. Saneh, a resident of Sa Lang Thon in Prakhon Chai district, had gone to watch a backhoe installing water pipes when the machine operator extended the arm to break obstructing tree branches. A bucket tooth, weighing about four kilograms, reportedly came loose after a locking bolt failed, flew off and struck him on the head.

Emergency responders from the Sa Kae Phrong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation rushed him to Buriram Hospital in critical condition and unconscious. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on 11 August.

His wife, Ms. Saengchan, 51, said she found a large indentation in her husband’s skull when touching his bandaged head at the hospital and believed he must have died at the scene. She called on the backhoe’s owner to take responsibility.

His elder brother, Mr. Kaew, 68, added that the deceased was a poor farmer renting land for rice cultivation and also worked as a labourer to support his elderly mother-in-law. He stressed that the family wanted justice and compensation.

Police Colonel Chamras Siriliang, superintendent of Mueang Buriram Police Station, has ordered investigators to summon the backhoe owner for questioning on suspicion of negligence causing death. Legal proceedings are now under way.
