In a record-breaking operation for Da Nang, police have arrested five suspects and seized over 100 kg of synthetic cannabis laced with drugs. This marks the city's largest-ever bust of its kind, underscoring a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in the region.

The arrests were carried out by the Da Nang Police Drug Crime Investigation Division, following an extensive period of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

On Wednesday, officers intercepted Phan Thai Phien, aged 51, as he engaged in drug trafficking activities in Thanh Khe Ward. During the arrest, police discovered approximately 10 kg of synthetic cannabis being transported on a motorbike and seized 10.5 million Vietnamese Dong (approximately 13,500 Thai Baht) in cash.

A search of Phien’s residence revealed an additional 2 kg of synthetic cannabis and further evidence related to the network's operation.

Building on Phien’s arrest, the police quickly moved to apprehend Nguyen Thi Thuy, 34, who was caught delivering drugs on Tran Cao Van Street. Officers seized another kilogram of synthetic cannabis from her. Subsequently, searches at Thuy’s homes led to the discovery of four additional drug packages.

Information obtained from Phien and Thuy's interrogations steered police to arrest Tran Thi Thanh Tuyen, 36, and Ngo Van Hoang Phuc, 40. Upon their capture, police confiscated 300 grams of synthetic cannabis. A more thorough search of two properties rented by Tuyen unveiled a staggering 70 kg of drug-laced synthetic cannabis, 200 grams of suspected drug powder, 60 kg of untreated cannabis, chemical solutions, and various drug-processing tools.

Initial investigations revealed that Tuyen acquired drug powder from Le Thanh Ka Ka, 26, a fellow resident of Da Nang. It's alleged that Ka supplied Tuyen with over 20 kg of synthetic cannabis. Tuyen reportedly then recruited Phuc to help weigh, package, and distribute the drugs to clients, including Phien and Thuy.

This meticulously organised crime network underscores the complexity and reach of drug trafficking operations within the city.

The case is still under investigation as police work to dismantle the network further and identify additional accomplices. Authorities are determined to curtail the influx of synthetic drugs that jeopardise public safety and health.

This landmark operation not only highlights the scale of the drug problem in Da Nang but also emphasises the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts in combating such criminal enterprises. The city's law enforcement continues to urge community cooperation to prevent the proliferation of drugs and secure the region’s future.

With the impact of drug abuse taking a toll on society, the authorities' success in this comprehensive operation provides a beacon of hope for further action against similar illicit activities.
