Arab regimes have another plan

Featured Replies

The 22-nation Arab League first floated a blueprint for ending the war and rebuilding Gaza at an emergency summit in March, in response to Donald Trump’s proposal to “clean out” Palestinian residents and turn the Strip into a beach resort.

The League went further last month with the New York Declaration, backed by the UK and EU, which called for Hamas to cede governance in Gaza and disarm, to be replaced by a Palestinian-led civilian government and an international peacekeeping force.

Signatories said this would unlock a $53bn (£39bn) reconstruction fund for the devastated territory, lead to new talks on a “political horizon” for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution, and further Israel-Arab normalisation deals.

As Israel threatens to occupy Gaza, Arab regimes have another plan

I suggest interested posters read the article to find out details of the proposed plan, training of police officers, name of the governor for Gaza etc.

A recently retired British diplomat with a Middle East focus said the unified statement, with its commitment to side-lining Hamas, was unprecedented and created a window of opportunity.

“We have never seen that before,” they said, “The statement would have gone against some strong supporters of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance… Getting them all to sign up to it publicly was very important. The question is, what can we make of this?”

The Arab States will be waiting a long time for the terrorists to submit to this demand before the rest of their plan is even put on the table.

Hamas negotiators in Cairo have received a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza, a Palestinian official said Monday.

Despite ongoing mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, attempts to broker a lasting ceasefire in the nearly 22-month-long conflict have so far fallen short, while the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen.

Hamas negotiators in Cairo have received a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, a Palestinian official said Monday, with the prime minister of key mediator Qatar also in Egypt to push for a truce.

Hamas has agreed to the latest proposal from regional mediators for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal with Israel, a source in the Palestinian armed group has told the BBC.

According to a Palestinian official familiar with the talks, the proposal from Egypt and Qatar is a comprehensive two-stage plan based on a framework advanced by US envoy Steve Witkoff.

It would see Hamas free around half of the 50 remaining Israeli hostages - 20 of whom are believed to be alive - in two stages during a 60-day temporary truce. During that time, there would be negotiations on a permanent ceasefire and an Israeli troop withdrawal.

It hasn't been about the hostages for a long time. It's a land grab.
