A well-known restaurant and pub in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi, was gutted by fire late night on 15 August, prompting a frantic evacuation but leaving all patrons and staff uninjured.

The blaze broke out at around 23.30 at the Saharat Steak House, located within the Sombat Buri Market complex. Police from Bang Bua Thong Station, led by Pol Lt Col Suriya Polchoo, coordinated with firefighters from four local municipal units to battle the flames, which had engulfed the second floor of the two-storey building.

Fire crews took approximately an hour to bring the blaze under control. Early reports indicate the fire originated near the stage area inside the restaurant, possibly from sound equipment located behind the performance platform.

Musician “Boat”, 36, who was performing on stage at the time, described the moment he spotted flames erupting behind him near the men’s toilets. “At first I didn’t hear anything unusual, then I saw the fire start to spread,” he said. “The owner tried pouring water on it, but the flames grow stronger. I just thought about getting out alive. Luckily, everyone, staff and customers, managed to escape.”

Security guard Manas Samang, who patrols the Sombat Buri complex, said he noticed the fire while on his motorbike rounds. “I saw flames on the second floor and ran up with a fire extinguisher. The blaze was coming from behind the stage where the sound system was. I used two extinguishers but couldn’t stop it because it spread so fast.”

Police suspect an electrical short circuit as the cause but have requested forensic experts to carry out a detailed examination of the site.
