A monk has been arrested after allegedly causing a road crash while driving under the influence in Ban Phet, Bamnet Narong District, Chaiyaphum Province.

Police received reports of a multiple-vehicle collision at around 21:00 on 16 August near Ban Lung intersection on Rungruangsri Road. At the scene, officers found a grey Ford pickup with damage to the driver’s side, a red-and-black Honda Wave motorbike lying wrecked on the roadside and a 31-year-old female motorcyclist seriously injured. A white Toyota sedan nearby also sustained significant damage.

The driver responsible for the crash reportedly fled the scene in a black Chevrolet sedan. Police pursued the vehicle to Ban Tako village, where it was found abandoned with a damaged front end and broken lights. Officers discovered a monk nearby acting suspiciously and brought him in for questioning, as the driver responsible.

A breathalyser test revealed an alcohol level well above the legal limit, prompting authorities to defrock the monk. Victims and witnesses later gathered at the police station to file formal complaints against him.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community and highlights ongoing concerns about the behaviour of monks.

Okay! This was the weekly monk story, guys! Directly from the hood, with dignity and respect.

Don't just defrock him. make him pay compensation to all the victims and then incarcerate him.

Defrock him, then punish him for causing the accident and leaving injured people in the road

I trust the charges bought against this monk, will equal the charges against the UK guy who has killed, due to his stupid antics on a motorbike.

I love monks. A never ending source of amusement.

I DID visit a monk that lived in a shack once waaaaay out in the middle of nowhere Surin. I think he was the real Buddhist.

My wife hauled me to the Temple in Pattaya a few times. I was 42 or so & my poor farang knees could not stand the torture. I only weigh 165 lbs.

Honey I don't understand a word of what they are chanting, and I am going to keel over and DIE if spend another minute on my knees. I'd always sit in back after that......Sorry Monk-Dudes. Farang legs ain't like Asian legs. Mai Dai.

The monks in Thailand are no longer seen as respected special people. Public see them as fulfilling a job by "not working" and getting a lot money to spend with prostitutes.

Voila.

Make the Wat that the monk is connected to for damages.

Correct, the monk did not kill anyone. More by luck that judgement though. I see English is not your strong point, so I will let the last quip, pass by.

My English is pretty good when I'm sober. Guess I better stop drinking. On second thoughts, that won't happen!

By the way you stated, "More by luck that judgement though". Shouldn't that be , "than"? How's your drinking going? 🙃
