My weight came off the easiest and I stayed super slim when I did Keto.

But then a bunch of influencers were warning that long-term Keto is unhealthy, so now I'm CONFUSED.

I ain't giving advice, but "The Sugar Diet" is a craze recently and it seems suspicious to me.

No "diet" is meant to be forever. A healthy lifestyle is what's needed, meaning a variety of foods from all groups so you get the nutrients you need. Too many carbs you'll gain weight as you age, especially if they're processed and high in sugar. Too much meat without any carbs you're digestive system takes a hit, meaning it's not enough fiber to protect it, along with missing needed nutrients that veggies, grains and fruits have. You can go low carb as long as you're eating green veggies in sufficient quantities for your gut. Too much fat over a long period is not healthy. as is too much protein.

Seems like a thailand problem, not an air fryer problem. Many products are second rate chinese junk

A good healthy diet is simple. Eat plenty of vegetables and some non-fried fish and meat and most importantly stay off the high flash carbs especially sugar and white stuff, there’s enough carbs in vegetables.

I did a quick search and it appears you may be right.

The coatings may release toxic fumes.

AND cooking at high heat is not as healthy as slow cooking in an oven at lower temperatures.

People want convenience, but it seems nothing beats good ol-fashioned slow cooking in a real oven.

But who has time for slow cooking?

Pay a woman 80K Baht to stay home and do some real gool ol fashioned slow cooking.

I've been following the Keto lifestyle for over six years. No related health issues, according to my yearly health checks.

Too much fat over a long period is not healthy. as is too much protein.

I agree! That's why I've adopted Keto as a lifestyle and not a 'diet.'
Radically change one's eating habits for a few weeks, and we can call it a 'diet.'  Live your life eating the same way every day, and it becomes a way of life.

But I would love to see some peer-reviewed studies in medical journals to back up your statement about fat or protein. How much fat or how much protein is not healthy? This is Science. What are the numbers? If it's so, then there will be data to back it up, not just anecdotal evidence.

Yeah, there's some reputable doctors out there pushing Keto for life ... like Dr Ben Bickman.

Not sure man ... AI is NOT 100% accurate, but I do use it for quick searches because it's too much work to dig out scientific studies.

And I know one guy said Carbs are a U-shape ... ie if you are too low or too high in carbs, it's not ideal.

And AI is confirming this here ... but again, AI is not 100% reliable.

Eating just fats and proteins you will surely have problems eventually. If you're already in you're 70's it's not going to make a difference anyway. Adopting a healthy lifestyle early on is how you reduce the chances for health problems later in life. As I mentioned a few times before, the Blue Zone lifestyle many adhere to has shown the longest life spans, and they eat a moderate amount of protein and fat, more meat then fish, nuts, seeds, grains, veggies and fruits, and they , on average, live longer than anyone worldwide. That's enough proof for anyone. Too much protein your kidneys are taking a beating, as this one link shows..........https://www.health.harvard.edu/nutrition/when-it-comes-to-protein-how-much-is-too-much...............Too much fat this one link shows the results............https://www.health.com/nutrition/too-much-healthy-fat.................There are many many links showing studies done , along with data from decades of research on fad diets. Basically, there are things the body needs, and it takes al food groups to get them in sufficient quantities. ..........https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/blue-zones.

Again, just anecdotal evidence.  When we see words like ‘suggest’ and ‘likelihood’ we know that there is no peer-reviewed scientific study. It ‘may’ be correct, and it may be wrong.
I prefer to stick with science.

Yes, don't let me influence you.

In fact, I may lower my carbs soon.

And some influencers are exercising 3 hours a day and are 20 years old, so they may be able to consume high carbs compared to less active and older guys.

Well, it's understandable that you're a racist since you're a 100 years old, just for you, you're going to love this expert:

The Australian Government PFAS Taskforce has reported potential associations with certain cancers.

Dr Desai said she would avoid using air fryers for health reasons

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-14763531/Doctor-air-fryer-throw-out.html

Teflon does not contain PFAS. The  article is based on incorrect chemistry. A mish-mash of sensationalism grabbed out of thin air. Being a doctor does not mean they have knowledge of chemistry.

Yes, it is true high temperatures causes polymers to degrade. Most air fryers are governed to 200C, well below any decomposition temperature.

One would get more acrylamides generated in a conventional  oven, which can operate up to 400 C.

Labeling me as a racist is classic ad hominem attack, exhibiting your dishonesty.

If I am a racist, why am I in Thailand, communicating in Thai with my Thai GF of 15 years?

How did I make it to my age, exposed to all these chemical hazards that have your knickers in a twist?

I spend 3-4 mornings a week at sports. (Gyms bore the hell outta me!)
Normally, carbs are burned for energy. Reduce the carbs and the body switches to burning fats.

But... the body needs 'some' carbs. If the body doesn't get enough, it will manufacture them. As long as you're healthy, you won't run out...
The body can only handle so much carbs, and then it begins to store them.
I choose not to store them any longer.

Terrible for Keto because there's no fats required for cooking?

I get fats from dairy ... sometimes eat a small chunk of butter raw straight up. So no need to cook in fats?

Sorry, not so. I'm strict Keto & OMAD. I use a paper or teflon dish, basket to hold my meat. No wash up, just throw the paper container away or wash the teflon container. I drizzle MCT oil on the pork, chicken or whatever prior to cooking. Same time as I sprinkle herbs, spices on. Pepper, salt, maybe ginger or garlic powder. Plus wharever else I'm in the mood for. Works a treat.

Exercise is a great way to get in shape, but the slowest way to shed weight. Which is your goal?  Or is your longer-term goal just good health?

IME both exercise and diet are needed for optimum weight loss and fitness.

Anyone who is overweight is asking their cardiovascular system to work harder.

My goal is both.

But only been lifting weights for a bit. I want to see how it progresses.

If there is still some weight issues, I may try "carb cycling", ie going 0 carb a few days a week.

Easy, Mr Olympia, I'm very impressed with your breath control at your advanced age. Can you still walk without issues as well?

So long as the HDL levels are high and the LDL levels low, it really doesn't seem to matter. Two doctors whose opinions I tend to trust have told me the same thing. So long as my blood pressure and heart function remain normal, I can continue with this lifestyle. I hope they are right... I began eating this way six and a half years ago, and so far, so good. I've only got about another 10 years if I'm lucky, and this diet makes my body feel much better overall. Joint pain reduced, body inflammation reduced, more energy, alert, never feel bloated after meals. and the biggest advantage... no more Pre-Diabetes.
Peer-reviewed research on Cholesterol has been radically changing medical thinking about Cholesterol and its role in the body.

So is your HDL high, LDL low?

With keto you should lose weight quickly but long term it's questionable, not exactly a normal diet, more desperation than anything

Hardly ‘desperation.’  More like, ‘ feeling healthy. ‘
I reached my desired weight goal after the first year, but have continued with this style of eating for the next five years because my body feels better when I do.  Please, where is the desperation you see?
Periodically, I will break Ketosis for a few days, eat the things I ‘think’ I’m missing, but after 3-4 days my body starts to feel like a slug again, with joint pain creeping back in. Getting my body back into Ketosis again solves that problem . Joint pain disappears, I no longer feel bloated after meals, or need to take a nap after eating or every afternoon.
This lifestyle may only be good for 10-15 years, but that’s enough for me. 🙂

I don't think desperation is the right word...unless someone was looking on in envy.

Keto is not just for Christmas.........it is for life.

I can walk normally for a hundred yards or so. Beyond that, back pain starts kicking in due to thinned out cartilage between the spinal discs.

I play golf three times a week, using a golf cart.

These two exercise videos I do every day, without fail. Plus ten minutes on an exercise bike.
