Frying pans are a lot of work and a pain to clean.

Is the air fryer easy to clean?

Especially the cast iron frying pans. Thank God I have a maid who takes care of that. First you have to clean it, then dry it, then oil it....what a production.

Is the air fryer easy to clean?

Short answer is - Yes & NO. I take mine into the back yard. Let it soak for an hour or two in soapy water. Then scrub it with an abrasive sponge. Use the water hose. Keeps the mess out of the kitchen.

Good news is that it's pretty much sealed, so, depending on how much you use it, you can get by with a good scrubbing once or twice a week.

It's kind of self cauterizing if used every day.

Yes, it's non stick, bottom of tray where the oil collects i just use tissues to soak it up, the base gets cleaned in soapy hot water, take a couple minutes

You can try pry my airfryer from my cold dead hands.  I love it more than any appliance I have ever owned.  On my second one now and I highly recommend this one.

Philips apparently invented airfryers and have patents on it that others can't copy.  I don't know how true that is but it's a damn good airfryer imo.

Many of the expensive ones just seem over complicated, all you need is two settings, temperature and time

Correct. Just need temperature & time.

I have cooked steaks, pork chops, whole chickens, chicken quarters. Irish potatoes. It makes a mean sweet potato.

STAY AWAY from the ones with dome lids. They work but are a PAIN in the neck..

You want one with a slide-out drawer.

Loads & Loads of youtube recipes out there.

I love it when my daughter says "This is yummy Daddy"

Correct, i would however stay away from the too cheap ones. The temperature control is mostly rubbish, it takes much longer to heat up and the temperature is different from the adjusted value. At least this was my experience with a purchase less than 1,000 Baht. I discarded it and bought one for close to 5,000 Baht which is excellent.

Maybe it was fake, my 1500 baht Tefal is excellent

About the same time, depending on potatoe size....roughly 45 minutes.. I does preheat a lot quicker than a conventional oven though. 3 minutes & it's at 450F.

There are precious few conventional ovens in Thailand in houses I have rented,so there's that as well.

My mother & father-in-laws would cook off a grill on top of a clay pot when I met them.

GREAT food, just not a lot of oven/baking action, as they only oven they knew was the one out on the back 40 acres that was making the charcoal out of mango trees.

I bet that would be some tasty cornbread if I could keep the dirt out of it. Mango tree smoked cornbread indeed. I'd eat the dirt on it.

Great fiber I suppose.

Gotta have the stomach of an ostrich & be able to digest broken glass & in Thailand. Eat some crickets & silkworms. Try to learn the language.

It builds character 🙂

Potatoes are slow around 45 minutes, better cut up into roast potato size and it's around 20 minutes

I place potatoes in the microwave for a few minutes before cooking in the air fryer

That's roughly the going price in the USA. 1500 THB is $47 USD.

Roughly $50 - $60 USD. I have WORN OUT/broken a couple, mainly due to jamming whole chickens in them that didn't quite fit.

Oh yeah. Now you are cheating! A medium potato in a microwave doesn't take long to cook.

Pierce it with a fork 8 times & wrap it in a wet paper towel....3 minutes & flip it & another 4 -5 minutes = you have a tasty potato. Sour cream & butter & a butter-fried porkchop. Oh yeah.

Just different ways to cook the same things.

I mainly use mine for BACON!

It just cooks it so clean & I get the bacon oil as desert to cook eggs with.

Slap full of bacon, 350F at 15 minutes & I make coffee. Cook my eggs in some bacon grease. Some boiled grits (which is ground corn). BIG glass of milk & you are ready to take on Superman....after the 2nd cup of coffee and a cigarette or two 🙂

I love scrambled eggs, but they are damn messy to clean up afterwards.

Have you tried doing them the microwave? Just need a plastic / glass measuring jug or similar. Only takes 2-3 minutes and comes out nice and fluffy.

Easy to clean the jug afterwards. Just squirt a bit of washing up liquid in the bottom and fill with a kettle full of boiling water.

How?

Not a massive airfryer fan myself - I bought one, used it a bit, then it's been sat in a cupboard for a year or more. But intrigued how you did the eggs in there.

Otto, on sale, 599B - works ok.

But I am not a 5-star chef like so many here.

(How you measure the temperature inside an oven is beyond me.)

  • Step 1
Pour enough boiling water into four 250ml (1 cup) ovenproof ramekins (or dishes) until the water reaches halfway up the sides. Using 4 eggs, crack one egg into each into each. Place in the air fryer basket and cook at 200C for 6 minutes for soft centres (see notes). Open the air fryer basket and stand ramekins in the air fryer basket for 1 minute to finish cooking and cool slightly. CAUTION: the ramekins will be very hot. Be very careful and use an oven mitt, if you have one, or a tea towel when removing the ramekins from the air fryer basket.
  • Step 2
Use a large dessert spoon to carefully scoop out the cooked eggs and transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to drain slightly. Place eggs on toast and season, to serve.

Ah, ok thanks. You can do a very similar thing in the microwave.

Fill a mug half full with water, crack an egg in it. Cover with a plate (to prevent splashback) and put it in the microwave for 1.15 - 1.30 (depending on the size of egg). They come out with nice whites and running yolks. Basically a quick coddled egg, the same.

You can do many things in an AirFryer, even bake a cake

I have even started baking in mine.  Quite handy in Thailand since a lot of places don't have ovens.  Also a good way to avoid heating up the whole house if you do have an oven.

I bake oatmeal muffins in those paper muffin sleeves.  I can only make 5 or 6 at a time but it only takes 15 minutes, so I don't mind doing 2 or 3 batches.  I have also tried making pancakes in them, but that is a little tricky.  Still haven't quite gotten the hang of that.

It can be measured with an oven thermometer.  Anyway, it also takes much longer to prepare a dish in that very cheap models, if you try a better brand you will experience a nice  difference.
