In a peculiar turn of events, three men in Ho Chi Minh City have been fined for setting up a badminton net across a residential street, causing traffic disruption.

Police in Binh Trung Ward, previously part of Thu Duc City, penalised the men on Tuesday for "illegally playing sports on the roadway". The total fine amounted to 8,550 Thai Baht.

The incident gained attention when a car driver captured the scene on video and reported it. The 33-year-old driver, who encountered the roadblock in the Van Minh residential area, described being stopped by the men. Upon exiting his car to question the obstruction, an argument ensued. The driver subsequently provided dashcam footage to the authorities.

When questioned, the men confessed to regularly setting up the net for a quick game with neighbours in the early morning, claiming ignorance of the inconvenience caused.

This incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges urban drivers might face and the importance of respecting public spaces for everyone's benefit.
