That's one way to stop counting overseas mail-in ballots.

  • This could lead to a significant difficulties in obtaining low value imported goods, like, I don't know, Sharpie pens for example? Leading in turn to governmental paralysis...

I have had Vegemite and shaving cream shipped to me, no duty. I have paid 83 baht on two golf gloves.

I was meaning a Thai Post authoritative announcement, not a third party news report.  Anyway, the Thai Post FB page has the announcement.

So, if I lose a credit card and want the US company to send me a replacement, Thailand is refusing to let it arrive to me, even if shipped by DHL?

No, this is in regard to mail going out, not coming in.

My best guess/hope is that mail from the U.S. to Thailand remains unaffected. So I think the credit card would be delivered.

I'm sure the U.S. Embassy here will issue a clarifying statement. 'Cough'.

I saw someone mention, friend of a friend of a friend, somewhere (maybe FB), that they had to pay a 100 baht fee to receive an envelope with a credit card in it, maybe from another country (not the U.S.). I'm dubious about this claim.

Had replacement credit cards, sent by my mail forwarding service, USA2ME, via FedEx in their flat cardboard envelope. This was held up at Customs. Got a message about it -- can't remember if it was from Customs or FedEx -- and how much to pay. I ignored such nonsense, and called my bank to cancel these cards, and have new ones sent to my physical address on record, which is Thailand. These also went by FedEX -- but arrived safely. Go figure....

Just got a bill from USA2ME for $54, the customs cost and cost of return mail, as they said "recipient refused delivery" when finally released by Customs. BS, as there's always a worker around to take delivery, if they had tried.

So, yeah, why would Customs flag an envelope containing flat letters, with credit cards stuck on?

It has been my experience that if you are getting a new card to replace the expiring card, it comes by mail.

But is you in Thailand and lose your card, the bank will courier a new card to you free of charge.
