A 25-year-old woman has died and her younger sister injured after their motorcycle was struck by a six-wheel lorry in Pathum Thani.

 

Police said the crash occurred at around 08:00, on 22 August on the Pathum Thani–Lat Lum Kaeo Road in Ku Bang Luang district. The sisters had just pulled out of a petrol station when their Honda Wave motorcycle lost balance and fell.

 

A lorry carrying concrete piles, driven by 37-year-old Mr Suthon, was travelling alongside them and was unable to brake in time. The truck hit the fallen motorcycle and passengers. Ms Natthanit 25, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the rider, Ms Natthanan 20, sustained leg injuries and was rushed to Pathum Thani Hospital.

 

Mr Suthon told officers he had been transporting piles from a factory in Bo Ngoen to Rama III in Bangkok. He said he had no time to avoid the collision when the motorcycle fell directly in his path.

 

Ku Bang Luang police officers examined the crash site and interviewed witnesses. CCTV footage from the area is also being reviewed to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

 

Rescue workers transferred the deceased’s body to the Justice Ministry’s forensic institute, while police will coordinate with the family for religious rites. Relatives who arrived at the scene said the two women were sisters who lived together in Lat Lum Kaeo district and commuted daily by motorbike to their workplace just three kilometres away.

I wish they would do a little more reporting on these things, like was the motorcycle rider licensed, and were they wearing helmets.

 

The lost balanced and fell after just exiting a petrol station, makes it sound like they didn't look before exiting, and freaked out and fell when they saw a lorry bearing down on them.
