Authorities have intercepted a large shipment of methamphetamine worth over 50 million baht, arresting three suspects in a coordinated operation involving police, local administration officials and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).

The operation, announced on 22 August, was led by Narit Niramaiwong, Governor of Samut Sakhon, alongside senior provincial police officers. Investigators tracked the criminal network from northern provinces, where the drugs were sourced, to the Bangkok metropolitan area.

The seizure involved a 6-wheel refrigerated truck carrying 336 kilograms of methamphetamine, disguised as a cargo of fruits including dragon fruit and pineapples. The truck was intercepted at a petrol station on the Asian Highway in Bo Phong subdistrict, Nakhon Luang district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. Three suspects were taken into custody: the truck driver, Suwit Ramphaiphak, 53, his passenger Wichean Chiwpreecha, 45 and his son, Kadit Ramphaiphak, 28, who was driving a lead vehicle in the convoy.

Police confirmed that the suspects admitted being hired by a drug trafficking network to transport methamphetamine from northern Thailand to Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The truck driver reportedly received 300,000 baht per trip, while the driver of the lead vehicle was paid 120,000 baht.

The suspects have been charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to distribute, offences considered a threat to public safety and national security. Authorities are continuing investigations to dismantle the wider trafficking network.
