In a significant boost for Thailand’s burgeoning gaming industry, the government has announced plans to host Asia's largest gaming event in October 2025. This ambitious move aims to further elevate the country's gaming sector, currently valued at over 34 billion baht.

Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Jiraporn Sindhuprai, alongside Surapong Suebwonglee, chairman of the National Soft Power Development Committee, made the announcement at Gamescom 2025. This world-renowned gaming fair took place from August 20–24 in Cologne, Germany.

The opening ceremony of Gamescom was presided over by Germany's Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space, Dorothee Bär. At this prestigious event, Thailand was honoured with the status of official ‘partner country.’ This designation allowed Thailand to establish a Thailand Pavilion in a prime location, a first for the nation.

The pavilion featured games from 15 Thai developers, showcasing rich Thai cultural elements and engaging international gamers. It also served as a networking haven, offering Thai developers the chance to forge global partnerships, especially through the Cologne Business Mixer, a business-to-business platform co-hosted by the Thai government.

Gamescom stands as the world's largest gaming showcase. Last year, it attracted over 335,000 visitors and more than 1,400 game studios globally. Thailand's key role this year underscores its rising reputation and potential within the gaming realm, providing a major platform for Thai talent on the international stage.

Globally, the gaming market was valued at approximately $272.86 billion or about 9.84 trillion baht in 2024, and it's projected to expand to $426 billion (about 15.37 trillion baht) by 2029. This growth is driven by technological advancements, the rise of e-sports, and the expansion of mobile gaming.

Thailand's own gaming industry was valued at 34.28 billion baht (approximately $979.66 million) in 2023, representing 77.5% of the country’s overall digital content market.

For the first time ever, Thailand will host ‘Gamescom Asia × Thailand Game Show 2025.’ This grand exhibition, occurring from October 16–19 at Bangkok's Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, will cover over 30,000 square metres and is expected to draw more than 200,000 visitors.

The event will boast both B2C (Entertainment Area) and B2B (Business Area) zones, along with a host of activities including exciting e-sports tournaments, an indie game showcase, cosplay events, and other entertainment offerings. These features promise to attract participants from across Asia and beyond.

This landmark event marks a pivotal moment for Thailand's gaming industry, positioning it as a key player in the Asian gaming market and offering a substantial platform for further growth and innovation.
