Hint -- look at the bigger picture beyond the tiny land gains Russia has made in the last 1000 days (tiny win, massive sacrifices).

The war is about much more than that.

Ukraine is not winning overwhelmingly; it remains an intense epic struggle, but on balance they are doing better than Russia and Putin has failed miserably to achieve his goals of his invasion of 2022.

Putin obviously wants Ukraine to surrender. Trump depending on his fickle mood at the time also wants Ukraine to surrender.

Countries that are winning, even modestly, are not ever going to surrender.

Not all battles of course but the war overall.

That said this is a war so thus a dynamic situation.

Stating facts about Ukraine winning now is not the same as a prediction about the future.

Older Americans will remember the gas lines under Jimmy Carter. That ruined him politically. While Russia is not a democracy public anger about that and other pains such as lack of water in Rostov oblast and interest rates over 20 percent could add up to pressure on thr Kremlin that could impact the war.

The Ukraine was part of the USSR for 75 years so Putin has more support in the Ukraine than western media acknowledges. That's why he can't just go in and flatten them he has to tread carefully.

His policy is to intentionally murder civilians, bomb children's playgrounds, hospitals, schools, apartment blocks, etc.

Putin is bluffing. The Ukrainian drone dominance on energy infrastructure is really hurting him. Russia is too big to defend against that.

The gas shortage is widespread in Russia's east and the more Ukraine destroys the more it spreads
