One thing that I do not understand is people who have large amounts of tattoos that are very difficult to hide. Who do they work for, what do they do for a living, and what kind of a limitation does that put on them in terms of their available options in life? 

as I explained to my last employer  I'm employed by you .... but I work for ME and my Family ..

In Thailand it started as mystical protection from harm. Soldiers didn't wear trousers but wore tattoos instead. 

I think superstition still exists here.

In the past, you would hardly see tattoos on Thai women, but nowadays more and more of them are getting inked. Personally, I don’t like it — but that’s a matter of taste. In Japan, tattoos are strongly associated with the mafia and gangsters, so you rarely see Japanese women with tattoos.

Something I'll never understand either.  Keep hoping the horrible fad will fade, unlike tattoos, unfortunately.
