Electrical Transfer Switch

Featured Replies

I have a small automatic water pump to deal with water seepage during heavy wet seasons.

I also have a 5KW Hyundai generator that can be used to power  the above in the event of a power cut.

I read recently that I can have installed a manual electrical transfer switch utilizing an external power connector into which the generator can be plugged rather than using an extension lead.

I have a competent qualified electrician I utilize but seeking the following information.

1) A recommended brand of switch.

2)Should the switch be connected only to the circuit powering the pump

3) Any other suggestions

Attached is a photo of my electrical unit.

Thanks

There are loads of manual transfer switches on Lazada, all much of a muchess really.

Just how big (Watts) is your pump? You might as well arrange for other "essential" (lights, TV, PC, freezer) stuff to run off the genset too, we actually ran the whole house except the water heaters off a similar sized unit before the solar bug attacked.

Your genset should start and run that pump no issues whatever even when running other house stuff. It may baulk at a decent size conventional A/C but if you have inverter A/Cs then I reckon you could go whole (or most) of the house.
