At least 12 construction workers were injured when a pickup truck carrying labourers was struck from behind and forced onto a central reservation in Cha-am on the evening of 29 August.

The collision occurred at around 17.20 on southbound Phetkasem Road, kilometre marker 200, in Cha-am District, Phetchaburi Province. Police from Cha-am Police Station and rescue teams from Sawang Sanphet Foundation responded to the scene.

Officers found a grey Nissan pickup, registration from Bangkok, driven by Mr Manas, 34, who was unhurt and waiting at the scene. The second vehicle, a black Isuzu pickup, registration from Ubon Ratchathani, driven by Mr Sompong, 33, had been carrying a full load of construction workers in the rear. The vehicle had been damaged in the rear and came to rest on the central reservation.

Several workers were thrown from the back of the truck in the impact. A total of 12 people were confirmed injured and were taken to Cha-am Hospital for treatment.

One of the injured workers told police that the group had been travelling back to their workers’ camp when the Nissan pickup behind them lost control on the rain-slick road, spinning before slamming into the back of their vehicle. The force of the crash caused the Isuzu to veer onto the median strip, hurling passengers onto the road.

Police confirmed an investigation is under way to establish the exact cause and responsibility.
