A 13-year-old boy tragically died after being electrocuted outside his home in Nong Waeng, Nong Khon Kwang subdistrict, Mueang district, Udon Thani province, early on 30 August. Police and medical teams were called to the scene following reports of the incident.

The boy, whose nickname was Cartoon, was found lying lifeless next to a makeshift electrical cable extending from a window of the single-storey house. Examination revealed burn marks on his right hand, consistent with electrocution. Relatives, particularly his father and grandfather, were reportedly inconsolable at the scene.

Mr. Ya, 67, the boy’s grandfather, explained that the boy lived with him and his father. The boy’s mother had separated from his father some time ago. Mr. Ya said he discovered his grandson after returning from checking the property, only to find him motionless. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful and emergency services were immediately contacted.

“The boy had dreams of becoming a train driver, but tragically, he never got the chance,” Mr. Ya said.

Authorities believe the electrocution may have been caused by water-soaked damaged cables during a night of heavy rain. It is thought the boy may have tried to plug in an electrical device, resulting in accidental contact with the live wire.

Police continue to investigate the incident, which has left the boy’s family heartbroken.
