Will this Work or a Better Way?

Featured Replies

I have a M521 pump controller that turns the well pump on when the float valve in the water tank calls it, therefore filling the water tank.

I want to make another water line that also turns the well pump on when a seperate tap connected to a EPC4 automatic pressure controller tap is turned on.

Was thinking of using a LY2NJ relay.

Operation:

From the pump controller M521 to pins 1 and 2 of the relay, out thru terminals 5 and 6 to the well pump.

When the water tank float switch calls the M521 pump controller, 220v is outputted from N1 and L1 thru relay terminals 1/5 and 2/6 to the well pump.

The EPC4 Automatic Pressure Controller has 220v to the input side and when the tap connected to the EPC4 controller is turned on, 220v is connected to 7/8 of the relay therefore opening the circuit from the pump controller M521 and connecting 220V from EPC4  via contacts 3/5 and 4/6.

For some reason I don't like 220v being on contacts 7/8 and 3 /4 .

Must be another better way, but I keep coming back to this setup.

Options?

How can a EC-4 style pump controller work when connected to an existing open ended line that's filling a tank?

Note that the EC-4 is a flow and pressure controller.

Thanks for your reply.

The EPC4 controller water inlet is the well pump and the water outlet is a tap.

When the tap turns on lower pressure at the tap so EPC4 operates and sends 220v to the well pump.

That's what I hope will happen.

I'm wrong?

If outlet of the well pump is filling a tank and also connected to an EC-4 how will the EC-4 ever build pressure?

A pipe diagram after well pump will end any confusion.

If you are creating a separate pressure line for garden irrigation then would it not be best to add another pump to the tank outlet.

The relay would let the tank fill when the float switch operates. The relay would also turn the well pump on when the tap is operated and inturuppt the power from the M521 controller therefore stopping the tank filling.

I could install an extra pump where the tap is.

The line from well pump to tank is an open to atmosphere so how will the pressure ever rise enough to satisfy the EC-4 cut off pressure.

Thinking...time for beers  🙂

Thanks.

The tank has a bulb and cut out switch on the water inlet to the tank.

Will think more. 🙂

The water flow stops when the tap is turned off.

I'll leave the relay out and just connect up the EC4 to the tap and see if it works. 🙂

Didn't work. Something strange happening, so pulled the EC4 to pieces and it was full of water. All over the printed circuit board. That's 8 years out in the rain, but it did have a cover over it, but disappeared.

It would appear second-hand as well as I bought it new and never layed a solder iron on it.

Can't remember who I bought it off but presume Lazada or Shoopee, so someone is selling second-hand goods as new.

Someone has repaired this board before. Not new as I bought it but second-hand.

Could have been a modification carried out in the factory?

Could have been, but if so it's a poor job of soldering as they never cleaned the board and corrosion has set in.

They are an expensive pressure switch compared to the rest switches advertised and it's easier to buy a new one the same as it will make fitting easier, but would prefer a different brand.

I think the reason for all the water in the pressure switch is that I mounted it horizontally not vertically. Evidently some pressure switches you can mount horizontally but not this one.

Instructions say to mount it vertically so any water can drain out.

That's an old MFI proverb

Assemble everything first then have a look at the instructions to see why there's a bit of something + three screws left over.

The old gag about what the Tory government had in common with MFI - one loose screw and the whole cabinet falls apart.

I don't recall who was bonking whom, but you get the picture.

Love it.

"Bonking"?

Those were the days...........
