A suspected drug dealer escaped on foot after his pick-up truck crashed into a house fence in Rayong, leaving police to discover a stash of methamphetamine tablets and crystal meth inside the vehicle.

The crash occurred on Sukhumvit Road at the Krok Yai Cha bend, opposite Rayong Provincial Court in Noen Phra subdistrict. Police Lieutenant Kampol Thaveephan, deputy investigator at Mueang Rayong police station, attended the scene along with rescue workers and detectives.

A black Mitsubishi Triton four-door pick-up had smashed through a metal fence, its front end crumpled against a post. The driver, a man aged around 40, was found with only minor cuts and abrasions and was helped from the wreckage by nearby patrol officers. He was seated awaiting medical attention when rescue teams arrived.

However, during a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a brown leather bag on the front seat. Inside were 200 methamphetamine tablets and around 5 grams of crystal meth packed in a plastic bag.

Before officers could act, the injured driver suddenly fled the scene, disappearing without trace and leaving behind the drugs and vehicle.

Police believe the man is part of a local narcotics distribution network and had been transporting the drugs for delivery when his vehicle suffered a tyre blowout, sending it skidding into the fence.

The pick-up truck and seized drugs have been taken as evidence. A manhunt is now underway to track down the suspect and bring him to justice.
