What Router?

Featured Replies

I've had True home wifi for a few years but recently around 8-9 pm the speed declines so my IPTV programmes buffer or freeze.

I've just changed to AIS but sometimes I still have the same problem.

AIS have obviously installed a new router, the download speed I pay for is 1 GB, would buying a new router increase my speed?

The router AIS supplied is Huawei cyberstar HG8045x6-12-ais

If so what router or what spec should I be looking for please?

So a current download speed of 19.2 Mbps is nothing to do with internet but a poor IPTV service ?

you don't have an idea how to do a speed test. In your multiple previous threads about your sh!t iptv me and sevral others have tried to help you, but you just ignored all advice, and everyone gave up on you.

Why would a different router increase your speed?

Why you think that every ISP is out to cheat you?

BTW, 19 Mbps should be more than sufficient for a full HD stream, but as I said you don't even know what you are testing.

No need to answer, because ignorants go on my ignore list, as that is where they belong

I'm pleased about that.

How are you testing this?

IME, just testing the local infrastructure with speedtest you should get the full package speed. You can drill down with testmynet.

Are all your connections 10/100/1000?

Do you have the right cables?

Are you using WiFi?

What is the EXACT AIS Fibre package?

Infrastructure for streaming live athletic events globally can be overwhelmed quite quickly.

What are you streaming? Are you paying for a contracted service?

Are all your connections 10/100/1000? I don't know what that means??

Do you have the right cables? Yes

Are you using WiFi? I use wifi until it buffers then attach LAN cable which means it has to lay on the floor from my android box/tv to the router in the corner

What is the EXACT AIS Fibre package? broadband 24 1Gbps/500

Infrastructure for streaming live athletic events globally can be overwhelmed quite quickly.

What are you streaming? Are you paying for a contracted service? Yes, mainly UK tv programmes and especially EPL.

Did AIS not show you the local speed when they installed the new service and router and was it 1Gbps or something else?

Not unless their router cannot handle that speed - see above comment.

If they showed you it connects at that speed then your issues are elsewhere. If they didn't show you then call them back - but make sure you are testing with a wired ethernet connection (not wi fi) as that is what they will use.

What type of box do you have?

I had a cheap android box, playback was poor due to speed of connection and a <deleted> processor.

You need something decent like a firestick, onn box etc. Improves the stream no end.

Any router supplied by your IP is going to be cheap "junk".

You dont give away the best.

Whether that helps or not will only be seen if you replace the one you have.

They did ask me to do a speed test and I have seen 1GB during local test previously

That test was on my laptop this afternoon, not my Ugoos AM8 box

19.2 Mbps or 19.2 MB/s?

Why don't you post a screenshot of the test?

Probably one of the least helpful and misinformed posts I have ever seen on this forum - and that is saying something

Then that suggests nothing to do with the router don't you think?

The speed fluctuates, it's usually between 8-9 pm when it slows down, or at least that's when my TV programmes start to buffer.

19.2 Mbps.

Take the Android Box out of the configuration, and give an official local EPL streamer a test, I think you can subscribe for a month. With AIS Play, install the app on your TV if it isn't already there. You can log in with your AIS Fibre account number or an AIS SIM.

https://aisplay.ais.co.th/portal/screen/SportsWeb/

https://www.facebook.com/AISPLAYSPORTS

Assuming you have a newer TV you will get better performance over WiFi.

19.2 Mbps seems low for testmynet to the UK. For me (AIS Fibre 1,000/200 - 399 THB/month), Down  439.2 Mbps, Up 112.2 Mbps

Are you using a VPN?

Unoffical restreamers may not have the bandwidth/infrastructure to support thousands of subscribers.

Translation - I haven't a clue about networking but if I throw money at it I am sure it will be better.........

You replaced the AIS fibre optical GPON router, or added an additional WIFI router?

So you can't answer the question?

Don't think your issue is the router. Since it is a time of day issue your hardware will not change due to the time of day.  I would check to make sure there is not some type of backup or update that happens everyday at 8-9PM and also check that you know all the clients attached to your router at this time of day. If you have a neighbor that is using your WiFi and is a heavy user between 8-9PM it could cause an issue.

The internet usage across the internet backbone will go up and down during the day so it may be the issue.

The IPTV provider will also have higher usage at times of the day so may be the issue.

If you can ping your IPTV provider you could try pinging when things are normal and then when having the issue to see if there is any packet loss or if the response time is higher.

You can do a traceroute to the IPTV provider to see the route through the backbone and then compare the route when working OK and when having the issue. Again see if the response time is higher when IPTV is buffering. Note this will only show the path in one direction the return path through the internet may be very different.

I would try other streaming services to see if it is only your IPTV with the buffering issue or other streaming services have the issue at that time of day.

Maybe try going via a VPN connected to a different country.

The bottleneck could be at any hop over the network or at the IPTV provider itself.

Good Luck with the issue but you may have better luck downloading things to watch in the heavy usage time of the day rather than streaming.

If you're subscribing to a higher speed fiber package the routers that True and AIS are offering are high quality. I've tried using a Netgear router which was quite costly, and the installation was ridiculously difficult, the software is very complex and setting up a network is difficult.

I do use an Netgear Orbi satellite, which connects to my router through a LAN cable, and that does boost my signal quite a bit in my other rooms.
