Artificial sweeteners can age the brain by 1.5 years, study says

Artificial sweeteners aged the brain by over 1.5 years, study says

People who consumed the highest levels of certain artificial sweeteners — equivalent to just one diet soda a day — saw a significant decline in their ability to remember and recall words when compared to people who consumed the lowest levels, a new study found.

“People who consumed the most low- or no-calorie sweeteners showed a 62% faster global cognitive decline than those who consumed the lowest amount — that’s the equivalent of 1.6 — years of brain aging,” said lead study author Dr. Claudia Kimie Suemoto, an associate professor of geriatrics and director of the Biobank for Aging Studies at the University of São Paulo’s Medical School in Brazil.

People in the highest tier consumed an average of 191 milligrams, or about 1 teaspoon, of artificial sweeteners each day. To put that into perspective, one can of diet soda sweetened with aspartame contains around 200 to 300 milligrams, according to the World Health Organization.

Without context, this means absolutely nothing.

This is pointing the finger at saccharin, aspartame and sucrose in significant quantities.

I dont have sugar in my drinks but do like Stevia in my porridge and you only need a dribble as it's significantly sweeter than sugar. With a bit of cake when I'm out I have to take pot luck.

Got the obligatory Trump mention in nice and early .

Well done , you wont this threads prize of being the first to mention Trump

It's worth to read (published by CNN on Wednesday) and named the most common sweeteners.👍

Asparthame that is widely put in all those "sugar free" sodas is harmful  when consumed on the long term.

Not saying that those over sugary Colas are any better, far from it.

After a certain age, best to stick with clean water, soda water, now and then a nice fresh coconut water and for social outings, a few glasses of a good red wine (with moderation).

Avoid any processed foods in excess (biscuits, pre cooked meats, bread...anything that is pre-cooked or cooked in the factory).

We do want to enjoy Thailand or Asia as long as possible after all...

On the plus side re brain aging, there's some interesting research published in the last few weeks about the benefits of lithium orotate. Patients with dementia and Alzheimer are found to have low levels of lithium in the brain. Apparently that simple atom works against amyloid plaque, breaking it down and preventing neuron death. There is some evidence that in patients with early stages of dementia, taking lithium orotate supplements (~5mg/day) lessen the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer.

It's still early, but since the supplement seems to cause no harm, those susceptible to dementia or with a family history of Alzheimer might benefit from taking it.

I guess you had too many sweeteners

Consumers have been warned for at least 20 years about the risks to brain health from Asparatme and the other artificial sweeteners. But the warnings never seem to turn into action. I've tried to avoid them as much as possible - though I do like Sweppes Manao Zero Sugar and drink maybe 1-2 per week. Basically I drink only water during the day and evening and juice and coffee only with breakfast. Not suggesting that's the best way - but I think everyone knows their main drink of the day should be water - not sodas or caffeine based drinks.

The obvious solution to this is just to pay extra for sugar, such as glucose, but with Reverse CHIRALITY.

Would you pay extra for Left-Handed Glucose, instead of what you are now using. if this can save your brain from aging, and not make you fat?

So, if you are interested, please inquire at a company such as this one:

The price?

I think if we could increase demand, then we might get the cost down a bit.

USD200.00 per gram seems a bit steep.
