Police in Phayao have dismantled a gang of teenagers involved in public disturbances, seizing firearms, explosives and illegal drugs in an operation.

The crackdown follows an incident on 1 September when youths threw ping-pong ball explosives along Phaholyothin Road in front of a local shop in Wiang subdistrict, sparking panic among residents.

Investigators, led by Pol. Lt. Thaworn Muangjai of Phayao Provincial Police, identified suspects from video footage and witness testimony, tracing multiple teenagers involved in the incident. Motorbikes and clothing linked to the disturbance were also seized.

On 3 September, officers from Mueang Phayao Police Station, under Pol. Lt. Chawit Keeratitthanakul, searched Khun Nai Mansion, a local apartment block, suspected of drug activity. They found more than 10 teenagers exhibiting suspicious behaviour consistent with drug use. Initial urine tests for all individuals returned positive results for methamphetamine.

Further searches uncovered a homemade short shotgun and two improvised explosive devices hidden within the rooms and a motorbike. Some of the suspects admitted ownership of the weapons, while others denied involvement.

Preliminary charges have been filed, including illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives, and drug use (methamphetamine). All suspects are currently in custody as the case proceeds through the legal system.
