Police investigating the gruesome murder of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase and weighted with dumbbell plates in a reservoir in Huai Yai have uncovered a vital lead pointing towards a Chinese suspect.

Detectives on 5 September, questioned a sales assistant from a South Pattaya shopping centre who confirmed selling a set of dumbbells to a Chinese man on 27 August, just days before the victim is believed to have died.

According to her statement, the man, described as about 40 years old, of medium build and able to speak limited Thai and English, spent more than half an hour deliberating before purchasing a 20kg dumbbell set along with an additional 5kg plate. The items matched exactly those later used to weigh down the suitcase containing the victim’s remains.

The saleswoman recalled helping the man load the equipment into the back of a silver-grey SUV, believed to be a rental vehicle. Police have since traced the vehicle to a local car hire firm in Pattaya and plan to examine it further.

Investigators said the suspect showed no outward signs of nervousness during the purchase, even making a phone call in Chinese while inspecting the weights. “At the time, nothing seemed unusual,” the witness said, “but when I saw the news and recognised the same type of dumbbell, I was shocked.”

Forensic officers confirmed that the plates recovered from the reservoir were identical in size and weight to those sold at the store.

Huai Yai police are now working with Bang Lamung officers to track the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage. Chonburi provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Thawatchakiet Jindakornsanosn was unavailable for comment, but sources indicated the case is moving quickly and an arrest warrant for the Chinese suspect could be issued soon.

The victim, an unidentified woman aged between 30 and 40, had been dead for at least five days before her body was discovered. The investigation remains ongoing.

He must have planned it well ahead... Wonder, if the victim is his wife, or mistress. May she R.I.P.

With this revelation plastered all over the media since yesterday, I think it is highly probable that the China man has buggered off already!!

Good to see the cop wearing safety shoes while working with heavy weights.
