Today, prostitution (ST/LT) over age 18 (since the 1996 law) and over 20 in bars (since 2018) is technically illegal in Thailand. But in practice, the law is ignored when workers are over 20.

But what if Thailand becomes wealthier, more family-oriented, and more focused on protecting its global image, and finally earns U.S. Tier 1 status?

To avoid reputational damage to tourism, police could shift from treating sex work as a tolerated offense to treating it as a serious crime. Police and volunteer units then enforce a total ban on all sellers and buyers. Any sex tourist caught could face severe punishment, possibly lifelong imprisonment, or even the death penalty. Tourism would continue, but sex tourism would be forbidden entirely.

First, I just want to tell you that your poll tries to answer a question with 2 questions as alternative choices. That´s just weird!

After, that law states that prostitution is not illegal in Thailand, as long as it´s not in your face and advertised openly. What is illegal is the transactions of selling sex or buying sex, where both are clearly illegal in the law.

How would Thailand become wealthier, when only the people with power and money are making all the choices? Really, can you see Pattaya getting more family oriented? 😂

Tier 1 status???? Are you mad?

Seriously, you are living on a cloud, right?

Like many Thai's I've never once went to a bar or paid for sex once in all my years in Thailand. Lots of other things to do here and still enjoy your life.

  • Sure. Most of us are here for the temples. And the cooking courses,  of course.

  • If they enforce prostitution, I will stay away. I will not be used that way, no matter how much money they would pay me.

Shame on Thailand for not supporting these young mothers.

That's what they invented farangs for, no?
