A Chinese tourist has died and another survived after a jet ski incident, off Koh Larn near Pattaya. The couple, who rented the craft from Tawaen Beach on 9 September, failed to return it by the agreed time. Rescue teams launched a large-scale search and discovered the man alive in the early hours of 10 September, while his wife was later found dead.

Police were first alerted when the jet ski owner reported that the craft had not been brought back. Officials from Pattaya City Police, the Marine Department, tourist police and Sawang Boriboon rescue units joined the overnight search. Boats and specialist teams were deployed across the waters surrounding Koh Larn.

At around 03:00, on 10 September, Mr Ma Xiaoxiao was found floating near Koh Nok, about one nautical mile from Koh Larn. He was exhausted, with minor injuries, but able to tell police that their jet ski had capsized in strong waves, forcing both into the sea. Rescuers provided him with medical attention before further questioning.

Later that morning, around 11:30, the missing jet ski and the body of Ms Yang Chong, his wife, were found not far from where Mr Ma had been rescued. She was wearing a life jacket when located. Authorities recovered her body for examination to determine the precise cause of death.

The incident has sparked concerns about safety in Pattaya’s marine tourism sector. Officials highlighted that while safety equipment such as life jackets is routinely provided, incidents can occur when tourists encounter rough sea conditions or venture far from designated areas. The case is being closely monitored by police and maritime agencies.

Investigations will continue to confirm the sequence of events and to ensure safety procedures are properly followed. Authorities have contacted the Chinese Embassy.

Sounds fishy!  No Pun...  she had on a life vest and drowned.  How does that happen?

She was wearing a vest, not a life jacket which keeps the head out of the water if the wearer is unconscious.  There's a reason that every ferry in the world uses keyhole life jackets.
