Problem With Wifes Date Of Birth.

Featured Replies

I'm having a problem here trying to get some common sense in regards to my wifes date of birth. My wife was born in 1956 in a very rural part of Korat, her Thai ID has the month and year that she was born but the day space is vacant. She wasn't registered till she was one year old. Anyway on our last trip to Australia she was warned if there was no day on which she was  born on her passport she would be refused entry. I've been living in Thailand for 25 years and have tried numerous times to seek help in this matter. No one will even consider biting the bullet or give us some info on how to rectify this problem. May I add even her ID has a blank before the month and year that she was born.

Does she have a birth certificate?

Just recently, when dealing with my pension provider, I was asked to provide my wife's birth certificate. Turns out she didn't have one (never has), and no record of her birth at her local government offices.

Apparently, that is quite common in rural areas.

She had to gather together several family members, and a local village head, to visit the government offices to swear affidavits confirming her date and place of birth and parentage.

She now has something called "a letter of birth certification". It's not a birth certificate, but it is accepted as proof of her date and place of birth.

Her birth should be registered at the ampho so they could find her Birthday there.

I saw a documentary where an adopted girl try to find her parents and a official office find them easy.

This office was in Bangkok.Wish u good luck and hope u resolve this.

Who gave your wife the warning?

AFAIK, if the passport and visa are legitimate, she won't have a problem.

Below is a the link to an excerpt of a Thai passport with only the year as the birth date. Its holder has travelled with it several times to Switzerland and China and a least once to England, France, Germany, Italy and some Southeast Asian countries without any problem.
