Applying for non-o Visa when I have an active METV

Featured Replies

To clarify,

I am outside of Thailand currently
I recieved the Visa for METV which expires in 3 months from the online e-visa website using the embassy in London. I used this visa once and have just returned back in my home country.
I applied for a non-o 90 day visa for marriage (stayin with family residing in thailand) via the e-visa website again.

How likely is this to be approved, as the METV is still active/usable, or does it have to be cancelled somehow.

If approved will there be any issued at IO for having two visa's?

has anybody been in the same situation.

Don't understand why you applied for the Non O so early.

When are you planning to return to Thailand?

Because I am returning in a month and wish to open a bank account before the new tax year,
I was not married when I obtained the METV, but now I am. It is also not possible for me to convert to non-o inside thailand as I do not have a bank account, Which in turn requires a non-o to open one. Hense why I  appled from my home country as I have already returned.

Understand.

So back to your situation. If the Non O eVisa is approved then just try and present the eVisa printout for the Non O to Thai immigration when you arrive in Thailand.

Worse comes to worse then they should stamp you in from the METV eVisa.

As you would be aware ...you can obtain a Non O (marriage) from nearby country.

Not ideal but a plan C

I'll give you the same answer I did on two FB groups where you asked 😉

I believe you cannot. .. ... 😕

You can't apply for any visa if you're currently holding a valid multi entry visa

You would have to wait for that 6 month METV to run out

OR

you would have to contact the consulate that issued it and have them cancel it in the system.

I would imagine once they see you hold a valid multi-entry visa that you're going to get rejected for this 90 day Non-O visa you just applied for.

There are many reports of people holding valid METV's being denied DTV visas and told to re-apply after the 6 month METV runs out. <- Meaning you can't hold two valid visas at the same time 😕

Report back and let people know if you're approved or rejected..

Agree entirely. But....

Strangely had very credible info from a member that had a extension (retirement) with a reentry permit.

Exited Thailand and obtained a DTV in Saigon.

Returned to thailand... When his permission of stay + reentry permit about to expire bounced out of Thailand and reentry with DTV.

Yes sounds like Ripley's believe it or not.

Hope OP updates with his Non O application result.

I totally believe that report, there's no problem at all having an in country "extension of stay" even with a valid re-entry permit, leaving the country and then applying for a new online visa of any type 😮

There are a lot of reports from people who were on ED visa/extensions had re-entry permits, went out of the country applied for a DTV and were approved without any issues at all  🙂 They came in, presented the PDF of the DTV and got stamped in on it without any problem. Some went to the immigration office after that to cancel their ED visa/extension but many didn't 😕 and they're still able to exit/re-enter on the DTV just fine

The issue appears to be holding a valid multi-entry visa from a thai consulate and then trying to apply for a new visa. Now that all the consulates can access the eVisa online web-portal database they can see who holds what visa when they apply for a new one. That's when person after person was rejected (mostly METV's to DTV's and this happened at quite a few different consulates to make me believe that it's a policy NOT just a one off 🙂 )

On a FB group I mod a person was gracious enough to relate their story about applying for a new visa while holding a valid multi entry visa.

Thanks go to that person for explaining how it's done

I can confirm they approved the non-o, they never mentioned anything about the metv, so im not sure if the newest one superceeds the metv.
