A 35-year-old man, Mr. Thongsak, was found dead at his home in Ban Muang, Ban Dung District, Udon Thani, on 13 September 2025. Initial reports suggested he had been attacked with a sharp and blunt object, suffering severe head and facial injuries, with blood found at the scene near his motorbike. Police initially treated the case as a possible assault by an unknown assailant.

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Anongnuch and stepfather, Mr. Chatchai, claimed to be away from the home collecting banana leaves in a nearby village when the incident occurred. Mr. Chatchai returned to the house around noon appearing shocked, claiming he found Mr. Thongsak attacked next to his his motorbike. He alleged the injuries might have been caused by the victim’s drug-using friends.

Upon further investigation, police became suspicious of the stepfather due to inconsistent statements. After questioning, Mr. Chatchai confessed to striking his stepson several times, on the head and face with a hoe. He cited frequent arguments with Mr. Thongsak and his own alcohol consumption prior to the attack as contributing factors.

Police collected the bloodied hoe from the rice granary and conducted a reconstruction of the incident. Mrs. Anongnuch reportedly reacted with shock and anger upon learning her husband had killed her son, expressing disbelief and grief. Authorities charged Mr. Chatchai with homicide and continue to process the case for prosecution.
