they are mostly very relaxing, hour for 100-300 baht usually, back home 10x as much, I've had 1000s, 99% good

In order to practice massage effectively one has to know anatomical aspects of the body and there's a very tiny percentage of people engaged in massager here that have that kind of knowledge. When you find one you stick with her.

And the one yesterday asked me continually during the massage if I was going to tip  her 100 baht after the massage 

 

I don't pick rough looking places I pick ones who are dressed up traditional,I expect good service , I expect a real Thai massage ,

I expect quality 

 

It seems it's hard to come by 

 

I must admit to do like the Thai blind massage at Jomtien at 250 b 

 

But I'm sorry to say the quality has gone right down , terrible , absolutely 

I will hunt around maybe for more mature aged masseurs

Several years ago I was riding my PCX home coming from Jomtien Beach turned right into Thepprasit. It starting raining, I pulled over in front of a massage shop, walked inside, the lady asked what massage you want, I chose the cheapest.

 

Omg, it was a Thai massage, she was jabbing me with a home made wooden tool, hurt like hell. I asked if I could upgrade massage to oil, she said more 100 baht.

Me too, I also hate when they are talking, even in Thai to the lady gives someone next to me massage – or even worse, if an un polite client answering a phone and starts a long loud conversation...👎

 

However, it seems like you might have entered a place, where they either offers extra service or the masseuse is interested in a relationship, beginning by checking currency and general wealth status (you know, some countries have a higher percentatage of millionaires than others, kinnd of checking lottery odds)...😀

You could have just posted your last sentence and we still would get the picture.   That might just be a clue to why you talk so much during your massage.   Happy Trails..

Find the nearest Wat/temple where the monks give hot stone massages and have an angry old man beat those stiff muscles into submission using hot stones and steamed herbs. 

Those guys are stronger than most women and have no issues with manhandling you as needed.

Best massage i ever get in Thailand was a tongue massage in bangkok.2 hours in heaven and i smiled rest of that day.Yup.she was naughty as hell.

Rather agree with you - from 200 per hour to 900 per hour it was never really special - but could be nice enough though. The 900 per hour place gave me a cold with its aircon. 

 

I also had masseuses blabbering all over (at least when you're open for initial chat, and how can you not be). At one place the masseuse was exchanged while i lay on my tummy - i noticed the new one only 15 minutes later after her taking over. More than once masseuses phoned with 1 hand and massaged me with the other hand; one time i heard a masseuse speak into the phone in Thai, "sorry, can't massage you at 4.30, still got to work on this farang here". Also they shout over to their colleagues in other booths or even in the reception area.

 

Still, a Thai massage in my corner of the west costs 500% more than in Thailand; i never tried if it's actually that much better.
