Soldiers from the Pha Muang Task Force seized more than 4.2 million methamphetamine pills following a gunfight with suspected traffickers near the Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Rai. The confrontation occurred on the morning of 15 September 2025 in Mae Fa Luang district. No soldiers were injured, while the suspects fled, abandoning sacks filled with narcotics.

The operation was disclosed on 16 September 2025 at 09:00 by Major General Kidakorn Chantra, commander of the Pha Muang Task Force, who assigned Colonel Anuwat Panyanan, head of the Thap Chao Tak special task force, to brief the press. According to the report, soldiers from Cavalry Company 1 had been patrolling border areas in Tha Ton subdistrict when they spotted 15–20 individuals carrying straw sacks through forest terrain. The group ignored orders to stop and opened fire with unspecified firearms.

A five-minute exchange of gunfire followed before the armed men escaped back into the forest. Soldiers then searched the area and recovered 15 modified sacks abandoned along the trail. The contents were confirmed to be methamphetamine tablets packed in large quantities.

Inspection of the seized items revealed the following distribution: one sack containing 360,000 pills, two sacks with 350,000 each, three sacks with 340,000 each, three sacks with 330,000 each, one sack with 320,000, three sacks with 230,000 each, one sack with 110,000 and one sack with 108,000. The total amounted to 4,298,000 methamphetamine pills. All items were secured as evidence and transferred for further processing.

Authorities said coordination has been made with Mae Fa Luang Police Station and other relevant agencies to catalogue the drugs and conduct forensic checks. Additional troops have been deployed to block entry routes along the border to prevent further smuggling attempts. Officials emphasised the scale of the seizure as a significant disruption to regional trafficking operations.

Investigations are now under way to track the group that escaped and to identify the networks behind the attempted trafficking. Security forces confirmed they will maintain heightened patrols and surveillance in the Mae Fa Luang border area to intercept future drug movements.

That's a lot of meth!

For world wide distribution or just local use, which ever it is, it's mind boggling....

I guess those guys carrying are in a lot of trouble, or en-route to other side of Myanmar.
