Suvarnabhumi Airport has been upgraded from a 3-star to a 4-star facility, following an announcement by Skytrax on 12 September 2025. The recognition marks a step forward in Thailand’s ambition to raise service quality at its main international gateway. Airports of Thailand (AOT) said the rating highlights ongoing improvements across passenger services and facilities.

Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy that assesses airlines and airports worldwide, cited multiple service enhancements at Suvarnabhumi. Ms. Paveena Jariyathitiphong, Acting President of AOT, confirmed the award, noting improvements in staff performance at passenger assistance points, immigration counters and security operations. She said the changes have helped deliver more positive experiences for travellers.

The airport has also deployed advanced technology to improve efficiency. This includes automated passport control systems and faster check-in queue management. Facility upgrades were also part of the improvement programme, with renovated restrooms, clearer signage, additional electronic charging stations and stable, high-speed Wi-Fi made available to passengers.

Plans for further development are underway. These include new dedicated areas such as Kids and Gaming Zones, Relaxing Co-Working Spaces and exhibitions of contemporary art and culture. According to AOT, these initiatives are designed to ensure the airport continues meeting the needs of passengers while reinforcing its role as a hub in the region.

Currently, Suvarnabhumi Airport serves more than 60 million passengers each year and remains Thailand’s primary airport. Ms. Paveena stated that the 4-star recognition demonstrates the airport’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality service and operational standards.

Looking forward, AOT has set the objective of achieving a 5-star rating from Skytrax. Continuous infrastructure development, investment in technology and service innovations are expected to support this goal. The long-term plan is to strengthen Suvarnabhumi’s standing as a regional aviation hub while providing the best possible passenger experience.
