An armoured vehicle carrying soldiers was ambushed with a bomb and follow-up gunfire in Su-ngai Padi district, Narathiwat, leaving four personnel injured. The attack targeted an RIVA armoured vehicle from Ranger Company 4811 while it was on a route security patrol at Ban Bue Rang, Moo 3, To Deng Subdistrict, on the morning of 17 September 2025. Some troops were trapped inside the vehicle before rescue workers managed to extract them.

The incident was reported to Su-ngai Padi Police Station at 08:00. Authorities confirmed that the explosion caused injuries to four officers. They were quickly transported to Su-ngai Padi Hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

District Chief of Su-ngai Padi, Mr Phongphet Makkoa, visited the scene alongside other officials and confirmed the names of the injured. Sergeant Major Piya Intakosee suffered chest tightness and was admitted to hospital. Volunteer Ranger Suriyawut Changkwiandee was unable to move from the vehicle and required assistance from rescue workers, though he remained conscious. Volunteer Ranger Tawan Sawangmekarat, the driver, and Volunteer Ranger Teeraphong Promphat both sustained minor injuries and were conscious.

Following the attack, commanding officers ordered heightened security and stricter radio communication protocols, known as W.4. These measures apply to bases, checkpoints, government offices, convenience stores and community areas. The objective is to prevent repeat attacks by insurgent groups and ensure readiness with manpower, weapons, and communication equipment.

Officials emphasised the need for constant vigilance and warned against complacency. Security forces have been instructed to remain alert and prepared to respond to incidents at short notice. This reflects concerns about further attempts to destabilise the region.

Later in the day, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and other relevant officials arrived at the site. They began work to identify the type of bomb used and to collect forensic evidence.
