Wayne's coverage of Udon and Nong Khai is poor. Another new guy went to Udon and stayed at the same hotel! Lame

There's an opportunity to do better.

Walkabout Wayne

Paddy Doyle & Mickey Stotch are OK, more realistic and honest  as the rest are just silly and always in OMG mode.   Worse, when discovering  'hidden gems' have been covered before, multiple times.  Simply following and repeating other's content.

Most try to sound intelligent, explaining things, when they are so far off, they come off as idiots.  Their ignorant subscribers haven't a clue, so it all works for them.  Not a bad thing, there are worse YT'er giving unhealthy and dangerous advice.

Mickey usually does find one or 2 things interesting in the market.  But yes, they're Thai markets, same same, and very ordinary.   Like his out of the way destinations, same with Doyle, as I have no interest in metros.

Been there done that, and same same, congested and boring, except Krung Thep.  But the congestion at KT now is just too much, aside from being there so many times already, nothing really new to see.

Last thing to see, last month, was the view from King Power Mahanakhon, and if it wasn't free, I wouldn't have bothered, and didn't even need to make a special trip, as we were already there for dinner.

In Udon Id go to The Cottage Hotel rooftop bar show that. Show 5 other good hotels that are cheap. Pick 5 cafes and 5 restaurants. There's 2 Khao Soi restaurants. Show a few buffet options. The Brasserie is good for live music.

They cater to a different crowd, and avoid farang destination & venues, as we do, unless in a tourist area, which is rare for them, and even rarer for us.  Probably why they're the only 2 that I bother with.

Other YT'er are about cooking and or health issues.  Shorts when I'm really bored, and no torrents to watch, which means a lot lately.

Don't even watch solar or EV vids any more since having.   Same with drones/RC anything or photography.  Don't think I can learn any more from them.

Been over 8 yrs since I went into Udon downtown to eat.  Two of the 3 restaurants I like for dinner closed, one while I was there, the other shortly after I left.  Just searched for the other on Gmap, and didn't show up.  Atop Prajaktra Design Hotel, and doesn't seem to be there.  Nice view of the park while munching.  Had a nice Curry Soft Shell Crab, and decent house wine.

Please don't encourage it to make even more pointless posts than it does at present.

Can't image me going back to Udon, ever, or even Isan.    Furthest that I go North now, is Khlong San or Sathorn, to visit our daughter.   I'll never go to Kanchanaburi again.  South is the only area that interests me now.

From following around some hapless geezer on the internet named Wayne that nobody has heard of to proliferating weird fantasies about imaginary American cuisine in Isarn. What do you do for an encore?

I see Udon has recovered nicely after scamdemic.  What good restaurants that were there, most didn't make it during scamdemic.  When we were there (3X) during the scamdemic, only a couple of our favorites were still open.

Grey Cabin has some nice offerings, leaning toward Yank / Tex Mex & Frendh, Italian cuisine.  Nice break from all the boring Brit offerings, most vendors have.  Though understandable  with the farang demographics of Udon.

Good hotel under 600 baht is called Good Home.

Under 600 baht hotel is well below my idea of good.

Sounds like a flea pit.

Nothing under 3000 baht a night for me up country.  7000 baht in a city.

I like a good hotel and breakfast that us recognisable as food.
