UK set to recognise Palestinian state on Sunday

Featured Replies

You guys supporting Israel are going to be on the wrong side of history.

Decent people all over the world are horrified with what Israel is doing and you defend them and spew nonsense like Palestine has never existed.

It's my opinion now that my country (UK) made a tragic mistake allowing Jews to form a nation and call it Israel.

It's become abundantly clear the country created is cruel and devoid of any moral compass, vis-a-vis the Nakba, the slow illegal annexation of the West Bank and the genocide being carried out in Gaza.

Saying the same thing over and over does not make it so. It just makes you a phony.

If anything the UK would be going into Gaza to fight against Hamas , as the UK have stated that Hamas need to be removed from power and influence

Sorry, I am not from the former colonies, calling me a leftist means nothing to me.

I don’t know whether to be insulted or grateful.

All those who kept saying about being on the right side of history have kept rather quiet since Hamas have shown their true nature .

Many people have already moved away from supporting Hamas .

Finally, we agree on something.

Nobody should support Hamas, certainly I don’t.

Debate, that's a hoot coming from you. You regurgitate nonsense that you are unable to support, and then run away when you get called on it.

Here we go with the word of the day, that word phony again.

If I don’t answer questions it’s because it’s a ridiculous question like

In which year did Palestine come into existence and who was leader of the Country ?

I’m not going to facilitate you guys trying to deflect and control the narrative.

Do you support the IDF'S task of eliminating Hamas from Gaza ?

Yes, but I only wish that is all they are doing.

Then we wouldn’t have this genocide.

The proper, legal, non-genocidal way where Palestinian citizens are considered equal with Israeli Jews.

What would be the proper legal way of getting rid of Hamas from Gaza ?

Treat them as the terrorists that they are and kill them all!

Can you just discount them?

The question was about the HAMAS not about anyone else.

I wish for all innocent Palestinians to have their own state and to live their lives in peace and harmony with Israel.

What percentage of Palestinians would you guess did not support the 10/7 invasion?

What percentage of Palestinians would you guess did not support Hamas?

What percentage of Palestinians would you guess support the eradication of Isarael?

What percentage of Palestinians would you guess support the eradication of all Jews?

"...calling me a leftist means nothing to me."

It does to me. I was born / brought up in a socialist society, meaning to me: a society where we all support and care for each other in terms of quality of life, e.g. we all enjoy an equal level of modern/professional health care and education and more strongly supported by state resources (taxation).

What concerns me is that so many US Americans seem to see socialism as evil.

Your refusal to answer about protecting the civilian population speaks volumes.  This is the very crux of why world opinion has turned away from Israel.

I can't see anybody who's supporting the Hamas here. But I can see many who support Palestine. And some support Israel.

Now only for you: Hamas is not Palestine!

Palestinians  who aren't members of Hamas are unfortunate casualties of war.  Innocent civilians die in almost every armed conflict.  The Gaza war is no exception.  Israel's intent is not to eliminate the Palestinian people but Hamas as a terrorist organization.  A large number of civilians have died in Gaza because Hamas used them as human shields to protect its tunnel system and other military targets.  These deaths  are NOT the result of genocide but  of warfare in a dense urban environment.  Most of the civilian casualties are due to Hamas terrorists hiding among non-combatants or using civilian infrastructure as weapons' depots or firing points.  That's a tragedy but it's not genocide.

The situation is akin to the civilian deaths caused by Allied aerial bombing in Germany and Japan during WWII.  An estimated 100,000 civilians were killed in the fire bombing of Tokyo, while over 100,00 civilians immediately died from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The Dresden fire bombing killed at least 25,000 civilians and the bombing of Hamburg about 43,000.  Tens of thousands of other civilians died in the bombing of other cities in Japan and Germany.   During WWII, the U.S. and U.K. killed  an estimated 500,000 German civilians through aerial bombardment,  while 350,000 to 450,000 Japanese  civilians died due to U.S. bombing.  In both Germany and Japan, the majority of victims were women, children and the elderly.

In a 48-hour period in March, 1945, at least 100,000 Japanese civilians died in the USAAF fire bombing of Tokyo.  The RAF and USAAF  got 37,000 civilians in Hamburg,  while the RAF wracked up 20,000  in Cologne and 25,000 in Dresden.  No one accused the U.S. or U.K. of genocide because it wasn't their intent to wipe out Germans or Japanese, only to kill a lot of them.

Same-same with the Israeli bombing of Gaza.  How is it any different than the U.S. bombing of Tokyo or the RAF bombing of Dresden?

To answer your final question: It's not different.

If we had defined war crimes prior to the 2nd world war, most, if not all, of what you described would be a war crime.

It's my belief that Israel is doing as much to cause a genocide as it feels it can get away with.

The destruction of property can clearly not all be Hamas hiding behind human shields. It appears to me the intention is to flatten Gaza and make it uninhabitable.

There IS Genocide occurring in Gaza as adjudged by multiple organisations.

Indeed, yet some hardline Zionists are pathetically trying to put down the Palestinian freedom fighters fighting for rights and fairness and end to land theft, illegal settlements, apartheid etc.

Are you saying Hamas members are "the Palestinian freedom fighters fighting for rights and fairness and end to land theft, illegal settlements, apartheid etc.?"

There are many freedom fighters in Palestine, some factions of Hamas are seen by many neighbors as freedom fighters. The West, influenced by US and Israel call the whole Hamas organization terrorists.
