Visa exempt + thai wife - extend 30 or 60 days?

Featured Replies

How is it now-a-days? Coming to Thailand on 60 days visa exempt!

Do I get 30 or 60 days extend at immigration? It used to be 60 days but visa exempt was only 30 days on that time...

AI suggests it depends on immigration office. Our marriage is registered at Buriram...

Visa exempt currently provides a 60 day stamp upon entry.

That permission of stay can be extended by 30 days.

There is also available a 60 day extension to visit wife.

You can obtain both however would need to do the 30 extension first if you plan to obtain.

You would need to check with your immigration office to see if they will provide both.

Note for the 60 extension apply near expiry of permission of stay

At Ubon I was refused the 60 day extension to visit wife with the 60 day V.E., I got 30 days. They said the 60 day V.E. is meant for tourist entries, nothing to do with visiting wife, get a proper visa. 😢

I tried 2 local offices, the same.

As per my first post you need to check with your immigration re the 60.

Here is quote from ubonjoe...

"You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife.

It does not matter what visa you used for entry. It can even be applied for to extend a visa exempt entry"

The 60 day V.E. came in way after Joe's departure. Immigration instilled in me that the 60 day V.E. is a different animal.

Last month at a land border I was told if you leave you will not be let back in, only by air, you are using the 60 day VE to visit your wife, get a proper visa to visit wife..

So I turned around, went straight to Ubon immigration with paperwork to visit wife, they gave me 30 days...

OP, how long did you wish to stay in Thailand.

Did you consider obtaining a Non O eVisa which provides 90 day stamp + a 60 day extension to visit wife = 5 month

Sounds a lot like you're living here on free stamp entries, and many people with extensive entry/stay histories on free stamps are told that you can get out by land but you have to fly back in, when trying to bounce at the Nong Khai border.

Also at most immigration offices you have to take the 30-day extension that you are allotted on a free entry stamp before you could apply for an extension for a different reason, for instance visiting Thai family for 60 days.

However there are immigration offices that are telling people you can't get a 60 day visit Thai family extension from a free stamp entry.

Which is why the caveat, "check with your immigration office to see what they do" is a wise thing to follow

Not sure yet but I try to avoid applying any visa.

I'm a Finnish citizen but not living in the Happiest Country in the World anymore so could I apply that non O visa ie from Laos or Vietnam, do same rules apply each embassy?

The Non O can be applied for most countries using eVisa platform.

Be aware that if you apply eg Laos you attend consulate to pay for application.

Which country are you currently.

To me it seems 90 days total without a visa is a limit they will not allow to exceed.

90 day report without a visa?

I forgot to thank you, you're extremely patient to answer our, sometimes stupid, questions!

Anyone can pay the fee at the Laos Sav consulate, as you cannot pay online like most consulates, there is no need for any contact, as it is all done online, the killer is, one must provide proof of residence in Laos when one applies for the eVisa online. 😏

I used my hotel booking with my name and date on it, plus a photo of my Laos eVisa stamp on the passport page, no exit stamp, insuring my passport number on the page was visible.

I was sweating, as if a mistake in the online form, one is stuffed, no going and knocking on the consulate window. Took 3 days to get an email saying I have been granted the Visa.......🥵

A weee report:

Went to my bank in LOS early morning, got 3 months bank statements, up to that day. Updated bank book. Went back home, copied everything, just in case, mounted the bank stuff on the eVisa portal form that they wanted.

Then got in the car to Laos, few hours later was at the Laos hotel to finish uploading the 'living' in Laos stuff. Had trouble with the internet....🙄....Managed to finish the form the next morning and send it off.....Phew..

My biggest prob with the uploading onto the form was if they wanted 4/5 copies of something on one question, but it wouldn't allow more than one on a page, so I had to learn how to use a merging tool, mount multiple pages onto one link...😪...So be warned, get some practice in.......🤗

Your not the first. It's been asked about often.

Seems most folk use a merging app from Google. Also have the files in PDF form

AI suggests that also.

Good you were able to sort it.

Here is one short thread and second post olines a solution.
