A massive sinkhole in Bangkok engulfed vehicles and utility poles, causing a significant disruption in the area. The 15-meter-deep sinkhole, located in front of Vajira Hospital, consumed two vehicles, including a car belonging to traffic police lieutenant Ratchawit Sitthichok and a police tow truck. Despite the incident, Pol Lt Ratchawit continued directing traffic, prioritizing public safety over personal loss.

The sinkhole, which formed around 6:30 am, resulted in the collapse of two utility poles initially, followed by two more, cutting the electricity supply. Pol Lt Ratchawit's car is still visible at the edge of the sinkhole, trapped in muddy soil. Recovery efforts were halted due to risks posed by further subsidence.

Pol Lt Ratchawit, who had parked his car before starting his shift, expressed concerns over belongings left in the vehicle. Despite these concerns, he remained committed to his duty, ensuring public safety in the affected area. Witnesses reported that the road started subsiding due to a suspected burst pipe, leading to water seepage and ultimately the formation of the sinkhole.

The incident raises concerns about the structural safety of the under-construction Samsen Police Station, which is expected to be operational next year. Experts inspecting the site worry about the potential damage to the building's foundations, with some suggesting possible demolition if the integrity is compromised.

Key Takeaways

  • A sinkhole in Bangkok led to significant traffic disruptions and power outages.
  • Two vehicles and four utility poles were swallowed by the 15-meter-deep sinkhole.
  • Concerns arise over the safety of the nearly completed Samsen Police Station.

Isn't that his job?

No family or friends in the car

What else could he do?

Help, I'm lost on this one.

Any thoughts out there?
