Residence address options

Featured Replies

I am based in Thailand  and spend winters travelling in Asia

I do not  have  a permanent residency as we prefer to travel quite a bit

the problem I have is banks and brokerage accounts are starting requiring pink card id or house residence book  ,

Can anyone suggest a simple way round this ,

I know one option is to rent a cheap apartment  and not use it , but the there would be upkeep and responsibility of the property etc

TIA

What actually is the issue.

Seems you spend months per year in Thailand.

Many do. Assume that you are currently using visa exempt + extension? Or what...

What issue have you had with your Thai Bank?

Dont know accurate % of folk living in Thailand (myself included) that do not have a Pink ID card etc.

Is this all based on recent news articles.

If you rent a cheap apartment, I'd say chances are very slim that your landlord will cooperate with you to obtain the yellow housebook, which is a requirement for being issued a pink ID card. You'd best own the property (condo) or be very close to the owner (such as a house owned by a Thai spouse etc.). A random landlord you rent from usually has better things to do than getting their foreign tenant a yellow book.

And why does he need one or a pink ID card.

He claims he needs it for banks and brokerage accounts, as per his OP. Just entertaining his question here; personally I'm of the opinion that the pink ID card is pretty useless and I wouldn't waste any time on getting one.

Do you need to have any dealings with a particular immigration office for whatever reason? If so, they might be able to issue you with a certificate of residence which could be of assistance  in opening bank accounts, etc.

If you have a Thai ID number does that mean you can get a pink ID card

Not necessarily.

You might be able to get a Thai friend to put you on their tabien banh. You then get a yellow house book.

Thats all I can think of. I’m absolutely fed up with Thais trying to chase foreigners out of their country. Why not just let them succeed?

I'd thought about renting a cheap place I don't live in. But then there's the problem of the post that will land in that address. Not ideal if banks send eg credit cards to an address where you are never to be found.

Looks like the OP can't be bothered to come back.............

I suspect that this is all to do with current address verification requirements in the international banking community.

Good luck original poster in getting a clear and relevant answer.

This may become an issue for many of us one day.

I think OJAS' suggestion of getting a residence certificate from Immigration is the best, I believe you can get one using even a short term lease.

Failing which, perhaps rent an address?  There are places like in Big C Extra Central Pattaya which rent you mailboxes, addresses, etc.

Thanks for the input every one.

I am not based anywhere permanently , and it has worked  ok up to now ,

the problem keeps coming round with institutions wanting a residential address , the latest one suggested the pink card and yellow book

I explained I choose not  to be tied down with property as it does not suit my needs at the moment , I also explained as some of you pointed out , the effort in getting a pink card is not worth it as it seems to not serve much purpose.

I was just asking the question , was there any way  to appear to be based here , backed up by some form of formal documents , but without actually having to have an actual property.

Thanks for the comment about renting a cheap property and pointing out the landlord would be unlikely to be cooperative  ,

I gave the address of my Airbnb and there was no problem. Bangkok Bank never sends me any mail anyway !
