The price of real gold jewelry in Thailand has hit a historic high of 60,000 baht per baht-weight, leading to an increase in demand for imitation gold. Thong Ek Jewelry, a leading imitation gold jewelry shop on Born Street, Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret district, reports significant growth in sales. Owners Inkwat Decharat and Juthamas highlight how their business has thrived amid rising gold prices, attracting both new and returning customers.

This trend began when real gold prices first climbed to 40,000–50,000 baht per baht-weight. As prices surpassed 50,000 baht, the demand for imitation gold accelerated. Now, at 60,000 baht, sales have surged again, offering a more affordable and accessible option for consumers seeking the prestige of gold without the high price tag.

Inkwat explained that gold enhances confidence and status, making imitation gold a popular choice as real gold becomes cost-prohibitive. He emphasized their wide selection, upgraded materials, and quality after-sales services as key factors in their success. His wife, Juthamas, noted that despite a sluggish economy, the shop maintains steady sales. Many prefer imitation pieces for safety reasons or for social occasions.

The couple ensures that the quality of their imitation products matches consumer expectations. Inkwat projected a substantial rise in sales over the coming months, expecting a 20-30% increase in the near term and up to 200% growth by year-end. Preparations are underway to triple their stock in anticipation of heightened demand during the holiday season.

Keng, a regular customer, appreciates the quality and variety at Thong Ek Jewelry, especially with rising real gold prices. He values the convenience and security of imitation jewelry, which allows him to enjoy social events without the worry of losing valuable items.

Key Takeaways

  • Rising gold prices have boosted sales of imitation jewelry.
  • Thong Ek Jewelry has adapted to increased demand despite economic challenges.
  • Sales of imitation gold are expected to rise substantially by year-end.

I remember an article on then Thaivisa about Thais selling their gold

when it topped 30.000 THB.

If they didn't buy back lower , I'm sure they regret it now (a lot !).

At these prices , immitation jewelry is safer , even if you don't live

in Pattaya with the ladyboys.
