The Second Army Region has reported multiple Cambodian drones flying across several border areas on 3 October, raising security concerns. Military units detected 20 drones near Prasat Ta Kwai temple and 14 at Phu Makhuea in Sisaket province, alongside further activity at different locations along the Thai-Cambodian border. The incident has prompted closer monitoring of movements and reinforced military readiness.

According to the Operations Centre, 12 drones were spotted over Ban Kruat district in Buriram province, with two each in Mueang and Phanom Dong Rak districts of Surin province. Additional sightings included one each over Phu Phi, Don Tual and Phlaen Hin Paet Kon and five near the ancient Preah Vihear temple. Both Thai and Cambodian armed forces remain stationed at their usual positions, with Thailand strengthening surveillance to track cross-border activity.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the situation, confirming that no clashes have taken place along the frontier. He stressed that Thailand’s forces maintain readiness at all times and that preserving superior military strength is a core principle in safeguarding national sovereignty. Troops stationed in Surin province have requested anti-drone systems, which the government and military are preparing to deploy.

Anutin further stated that border crossings would remain closed in response to public concerns, reopening only when conditions are secure and in line with Thailand’s national interest. He also explained that construction of a border fence would be managed by the military, with its location, design and timing determined by terrain and operational needs.

Key Takeaways

• Over 50 Cambodian drones were detected across border provinces on 3 October.

• Troops are seeking anti-drone systems as part of strengthened defence measures.

• Border crossings will remain shut until security conditions meet national requirements.

How does the Thai army know that they are Cambodian drones?

Could they be lost Russian drones?

Nevertheless, they make for good shooting practice.
