Lazada vs Shopee – Things Have Changed For Me

Shopee Food (restaurant delivery) has also been blowing Grab Food out of the water.

Predictably, Shopee Food's discounts suck again - at least the one's shown me.  YMMV.

Surveillance pricing can go f()ck itself.  Just shop less and buy ever less sh!t.  (And it's environmentally friendly   )

You can now use multiple vouchers at the same time on Shopee as well. It didn’t work before, but now I often see at checkout that I’m automatically getting free shipping from one voucher and a discoun

I use Google to search for items and add the word "Lazada" at the end of the search field. Much better results.

I'll have to start using Shoppee. Lazada is getting worse and worse, especially for the bait and switch. There are a few trusted vendors on there, usually food vendors, that I regularly order from. Ap

I used to buy on Lazada out of habit, plus Shopee is basically in Thai. I can read Thai, but, although my mother tongue is French, it's more convenient in English. Over time, three things made me change my mind in favour of Shopee. The first reason comes from a questionable practice of Lazada. When there is a problem with a purchase, Lazada does not really refund you but keeps the money in your so-called wallet, and it is quite a problem to get this money back. Second reason, the offer on Shopee has expanded, you can find almost everything. And the third reason is that Shopee is slightly cheaper than Lazada.

As I have been living in Thailand since 2003, I do have a Thai bank account and credit card. On Shopee as on Lazada, I can pay either with my credit card or by scanning the QR code with my phone, it’s very fast and straightforward. I do not use the applications on my smartphone because it's too confusing, I'm 73 and the characters are too small, hence the preference for my desktop. The banks do not give you the choice any more, and I have to use the SCB application, but it's OK. The Lazada’s wallet issue remains a red line and nowadays, I exclusively buy goods on Shopee.

Recently, any request to cancel or return an item on Lazada has resulted in the money being refunded directly to my credit or debit card (that was used to make the purchase) within 4-5 days. I have not had them try to refund money to my Lazada wallet in a very long time.

That's interesting.

During my last failed call to get them to move a refund to a voucher, I asked if I could set the account to automatically generate a voucher as it's impossible for me to use the wallet money. They said no. I didn't think to ask if they could just sent it back to the bank. I don't use credit or debit cards with them though. Lately it's been QR codes on a bank app.

Another annoying thing, even though I have been quite a high volume customer with Lazada for many years, when I asked them if they could elevate my problem and fix things so I could actually use the wallet. No! Impossible! Thanks a bunch.

Just gonna say it: I HATE shopping at both Shopee and Lazada.  It's tedious, demeaning, humiliating.  Lazada was GREAT before the damned Chinese bought it and ruined it (and then the Thais added their characteristic magic).

It can be a bit tedious going through all the sites trying to find what you want, and then, once you find it, you still have to compare it to ten other sellers offering the same thing to figure out which one is the best option. But when I think about how I used to shop for things in Thailand, it’s a huge improvement. Back then, I could waste half a day just trying to track something down, and now I can get it done in about fifteen minutes online without ever going outside or dealing with the heat, traffic, or crowds. Hard to really complain. Plus, online shopping has definitely been a big cost saver compared to what I used to pay retail. My basic consumer product costs are probably less than half of what they used to be.

I don’t ask for refunds very often, so I can’t say I have much experience with it. But if you pay by bank transfer using a QR code, they should just refund it directly to your bank, which shouldn’t be a problem.

As for the wallet, I used to have that working before, but then they started asking for pictures of people holding up their passports to continue using it, and I decided not to go through with that. Same with True Money Wallet, I closed that down too when they started asking for photos of me and my passport.

In the past, I think Lazada refunded to my wallet once or twice, but that was a long time ago. I can’t even remember what I ended up doing with the money. Maybe I convinced them to refund it another way.

Some people might think online shopping is too much hassle and that it's just easier to go to the store to buy something. But here is a classic example of the online cost savings. This same exact liquid laundry detergent on Shopee is about half the price of Tops. The cost savings of buying online from Shopee can really be quite a lot.

Are you serious?  You MUST be working for Shopee.  A human-bot perhaps

A couple of days ago I ordered an ฿800 item on Shopee. It arrived yesterday, but I could already tell from the outside of the box that it was the wrong item so I didn’t even open it. I submitted a return and refund request through the app which then arranged for Flash to pick up the incorrect item today. The courier came late this morning and collected it. The app then said the refund to my bank account would take about 5 to 7 days, and I had paid using a QR code from my mobile banking app. But when I checked my bank account shortly after the pickup, the money was already back in my account. Didn't even take a day. That was impressively fast and efficient.

Don't know if it's new but the Shopee app automatically translates everything into English for me, except pictures obviously. There's a floating 'see original' button on the bottom right if you want the original Thai.

For the website I just use Chrome translate. Works great.

Translates the reviews you mean? That's what I see translated

Lazada chat / customer service has changed, with AI you have to waste your time and talk to bots then eventually go to a real person. Order 4 weeks late, lost in China, they haven't process the cancellation and refund yet, I'm rating them 1* every time I chat to them until they fix

When you get hit with the AI bot then give it a thumbs down immediately on its first AI response. That triggers it to transfer you directly to the human responsible for that vendor.

No, all the text. Titles, descriptions etc.

Lazada have authentic products from authentic shops of the following companies:

- Bosch

- Zwilling

- Samsung

- H&M

- Adidas

And many many others.  Does Shoppee have these?

I normally shop on Amazon and just pay the shipping and tax for those items that can't be found on Lazada. There are some of course.
