Former MP Pareena Kraikupt has been sentenced to four years and one month in prison by the Ratchaburi Provincial Court for illegal land occupation. The case involves 1,700 rai of state land, primarily used for her commercial poultry farm. Pareena has been granted bail pending an appeal but faces a stern penalty with no suspension of the sentence.

The land in question, located in Ratchaburi's Chom Bung district, was partly designated as a forest reserve and partly for redistribution to landless farmers under the Sor Por Kor Agricultural Land Reform scheme. The encroachment complaint was initiated by anti-corruption campaigner Veera Somkwamkid in 2019. This legal action reflects long-standing allegations against Pareena, who was already banned from politics for life in 2022 due to unethical conduct.

The court's ruling has incited significant attention, especially considering Pareena's influential political background. Her family holds a strong political legacy in Ratchaburi, with her father, Thawee Kraikupt, being a former MP who facilitated her political career. Despite this, the court's decision remains firm as Pareena navigates the appeals process with a one million baht cash surety.

Looking ahead, Pareena’s future hinges on the outcome of her appeal. The legal proceedings highlight ongoing issues with land rights and corruption in political spheres. The case serves as an example of judicial action against powerful political figures accused of legal infractions.

Key Takeaways

  • Pareena Kraikupt sentenced to 4 years for state land encroachment.
  • Court grants bail pending appeal; political ban remains.
  • Influential political family under scrutiny in land case.

Not a betting man.....having lost £1 in a fruit machine in 1973.......but I'd be tempted to bet she won't see a single day in prison.

Will the displaced poultry be released to freely roam the state owned land.........🤔
