so many new wharehouses built in the last two years, owned by Chinese who are buying the durian from the farmers (cutting out the local buyers/exporters) then loaded on to Chinese owned freight trucks and taken back to China.

Glad to see someone mention this. Durian and other Thai fruits and agricultural exports are being purchased at the source and sent directly to China. Thai people then cannot afford to buy their own produce. They can just watch it on the trucks and trains pass them by as they hungerly stare from the side of the road.

Not exactly. Their  love of China is in respect to their own financial benefit. The day, they can no longer  profit from a relationship with China, they will become great Thai patriots.

Maybe, but remember that many have relatives in China.

"Thailand will remain independent of China and the USA..."

Are you that sure of the "independence" when the wealthiest families in Thailand have strong links (sweet understatement) with China (and the CCP)?!?:coffee1:

I do not believe that to be so. Yes there are millions of Thais with Chinese origins, but they are assimilated and integrated and have nothing to do with China, let alone an interest in being Chinese other than symbolic gestures. It's like saying Issan people are tied to Laos. Western countries have similar amounts of people with Chinese origins. They too have no interest in being Chinese or in helping further China's interests. They are assimilated and integrated into their western homelands now.

If you were talking about new immigrants or visa holders, then yes, you would be accurate. In many cases they are agents or tools of the  Chinese government. However, these people do not hold positions of authority in Thailand.

Tell that to all the Gold Shop owners, Charoen Pokphand, and some other of the 1% in Thailand

I can assure you there are many in positions of authority who have relatives in China, and who regularly visit those relatives.

While Thais generally are suspicious of Chinese intentions there are those in the Thai hierarchy whose loyalty to China is greater than their loyalty to Thailand, sadly.

For a few generations.

Secrets.
