The CPU is not on Microsoft list

 Entry denied for download

My CPU is from 2012, second generation, Windows wants gen. 8/9 and up, now go back and watch my video and get Windows 11.

Out of interest, what is your CPU......?  😉

  • This is the video I used. My advice is to call it up on another LT/PC so you are free to do the job on the target machine, as the lady talks a bit fast, but it is straight forward....☺️

  • Mess up computer threads @transam? A bit egotistical methinks. I've certainly added value to your thread by actually explaining things to people, rather than just posting a video and patting myself on

  • New there are clips all over YouTube how to change the settings so any computer even a potato can run 11 if you wanted to.

I had to wait for today for the Enrol button to appear on my Windows Update page. I then received a message that since I'd backed up my Windows settings to One Drive, I was eligible for free extended security updates for Win 10 until 13 October 2026, so I went ahead, seems successful, can postpone installing 0patch for a year. Microsoft have certainly made things confusing.

I have used this method on 3 PCs, one of which is 15 years old.

If your laptops are legacy BIOS can you upgrade?

Yes, by using the method in the video, there is no problems.

As was said she does speak very quickly maybe so  watch it on a different machine so you can pause it,

Microsoft says my PC can’t run Windows 11. I know there are ways to get around this, especially with a PC only 6 years old, but they’re beyond my very limited computer skills.

Today, I thought about trying the Windows 11 install again, with this slightly newer set-up, just for a bit of fun

That does sound a lot of fun.

Same CPU as me. I've been running Win 11 for a few years now without any issues. Runs much better than Win 10 IMHO.

Most people here like a tool. So if you need a tool to do it for you, you can use Flyby11: https://github.com/builtbybel/Flyoobe/releases/download/1.30.513/Flyby11_classic.zip

It replicates what is shown on the video, if you are concerned about doing it correctly.

If you want a more advanced tool that allows you to debloat and customise, as well as downloading the Microsoft image for you, try, Flyoobe: https://github.com/builtbybel/Flyoobe/releases/download/1.31.531/Flyoobe-1.31-win.zip

Details, including a Demo, here: Release Flyoobe 1.31 · builtbybel/Flyoobe · GitHub / https://github.com/builtbybel/Flyoobe/releases/tag/1.31.531

@transam already replied with how to. Good luck

I'm going to take the liberty of linking to this thread;

in so people can think about whether they should use @transam's suggestion of a method to upgrade to Windows 11 or whether they should use Rufus to do so.

I suggest watching the video first, then to read my comments afterwards. Then you can decide your own path or at least ask questions to help you decide.

I didn't mention it before, as many here struggle to take instruction or to follow a guide. But since @save the frogs brought up the subject on another thread, it introduced the possibility of further discussion.

Thanks for that. I tried updating 2 old laptops a ten year old Dell M3800 with an i7-4712HQ CPU and an eleven year old Dell M4800 with a i7-4900MQ CPU, both legacy BIOS. The M3800 was successful the M4800 got as far as installing and rebooting when I received a disk error message. Will investigate further tomorrow and if I can't sort it out will install Linux. As I'd thought both were for the Linux treatment getting one to Win 11 is a win.

First, I want to say that I like the video and really appreciate the help. However, this video refers to the Windows 11 Pro 24H2 version, which, by definition, has a two-year service lifetime. It’s also likely that this version cannot be upgraded automatically on unsupported hardware — you’ll need to perform the upgrade to the next major version (25H2) manually.

In effect, following this video gives you only about one year of service, until October 2026. That’s fine, but not much.

With a bit of extra effort, you can instead download the October release of Windows 11 Enterprise 25H2, which has a three-year service lifetime — one year longer than the Pro version — and will receive updates until October 2028. Just saying!

This is a video to update to Windows 11 25h2 on unsupported hardware

I have just updated another old unsupported Dell laptop to 25H2 using

Probably easier than Transams video. Took about 45 minutes, works perfectly. Getting updates.

Screenshot 2025-10-27 092446.png

@elfpattaya Just had a cursory look at the video. It seemed to be describing upgrading from Windows 11 24H2 to 25H2, rather than Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 25H2.

Since Windows 11 25H2 comes as an Enablement Package, the upgrade from Windows 11 24H2 will be offered normally via Windows Update.

So I don't really understand the point of that video. It seems to be going around the houses for no good reason.

Simply install the latest Updates and soon you will be offered the Enablement Package. Choose to install it. Done.

No difference between Supported Hardware and Unsupported Hardware in this case.

@jacnl2000 As aforementioned, even if you have 24H2 installed, 25H2 comes as a normal Windows update. So you have two years of service from the 14th of October 2025.

In this post it mentions Flyby11, and Flyoob, Which is it please?

@KannikaP What is your question? Flyby11 is the old deprecated version. It just handles the upgrade. Fly(OutOfBoxExperience) handles...you've got it, the upgrade and the Out Of Box Experience, allowing you to customise your install.
