A police officer in Nong Khai was killed early morning after a pickup truck lost control, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with his patrol motorcycle. The incident occurred at around 00:30 on 12 October 2025 along the Mekong riverside road in Hat Kham subdistrict, Mueang district.

Police identified the victim as Pol. Sgt. Thanyapong Phutthasen, a motorcycle patrol officer with Mueang Nong Khai Police Station. He had been on routine duty, patrolling the area when the collision took place near a local hotel. The impact threw both the officer and his motorcycle off the road, leaving him critically injured.

The pickup truck involved was a black Mitsubishi registered in Ratchaburi Province and was being driven towards central Nong Khai. According to initial reports, the female driver lost control of the vehicle, veered across the centre line and struck the police motorcycle head-on.

After the crash, the driver immediately phoned police and the Sawang Khongkha Thammasathan VR Rescue Foundation for assistance. Rescue teams arrived quickly and found Pol. Sgt. Thanyapong with severe injuries. Despite performing initial aid and rushing him to Nong Khai Hospital, he was pronounced dead en route.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police said she would be questioned in detail to determine the cause of the crash, including whether speeding, fatigue, or alcohol contributed. The damaged motorcycle and pickup have been taken for forensic inspection as part of the investigation.

Colleagues from Mueang Nong Khai Police Station expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Pol. Sgt. Thanyapong, describing him as a dedicated officer who was carrying out his duty when the tragedy occurred. The investigation continues as police review CCTV footage and witness statements from the area.
