Police in Bangkok have arrested three Lao nationals accused of robbing and assaulting a 69-year-old taxi driver in the Ramkhamhaeng area, stealing 400 baht in cash before fleeing the scene. The suspects admitted to the crime, saying they had recently entered Thailand illegally and were unemployed.

The arrests were made on 13 October by investigators from the Metropolitan Police Division 4 and Hua Mak Police Station. Under the supervision of Pol Maj Gen Kampanat Arunkeeriroj, officers detained Mr. Beer (26), Mr. Boy (23) and Mr. Ekaphot (25) in Soi Sukhumvit 16, Khlong Toei District. Police also seized three knives and the clothing worn during the robbery.

The incident occurred around 14:00 on 12 October, when Ms. Jariya, 37, reported to Hua Mak Police that her father, Mr. Boon, 69, had been attacked while driving his green-yellow Toyota Corolla taxi. Mr. Boon was injured and taken to hospital, where he was unable to give an immediate statement.

Investigations revealed that the driver had picked up three young male passengers on Sukhumvit Soi 11, who asked to be taken to Soi Ramkhamhaeng 44. Upon arrival, one suspect grabbed Mr. Boon by the neck, another punched him repeatedly in the face, and the third stole his mobile phone and 400 baht in cash. The men then fled the scene on foot toward the main road. Despite his injuries, Mr. Boon managed to drive home and inform his daughter, who took him to hospital.

CCTV footage showed the three suspects leaving the area and later taking another taxi from Ramkhamhaeng to Sukhumvit Soi 16. Police tracked them down using surveillance images and arrested them the following evening. During a search, each man was found carrying a knife.

All three confessed to the robbery, stating they had crossed into Thailand seeking work but had run out of money. They sold the stolen phone for 800 baht to a woman identified as Ms. Kanya, living near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The suspects led police to recover clothes and other evidence from a relative’s residence in Soi Ratchadaphisek 48.

They were charged with armed robbery causing injury, unlawful possession of weapons and illegal entry into Thailand. The trio have been handed over to investigators for prosecution.
