Police from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) have arrested a 26-year-old Cambodian woman accused of involvement in a child begging ring that forced minors to solicit money from tourists on Patong Beach, Phuket. The arrest, made on 17 October, followed a court warrant issued by the Phuket Juvenile and Family Court earlier this year.

The suspect, identified only as Ice, was detained in the Patong area of Kathu district under warrant number จ.11/2568, dated 31 March. She faces multiple charges including forcing or coercing children into inappropriate behaviour, encouraging minors to become beggars and employing children in activities that could endanger their physical or mental health or development.

According to Police Major General Pattanask Suwansuwan, commander of the CSD, the operation was ordered after investigators confirmed the suspect’s link to a Cambodian gang known for exploiting children in tourist areas. The team, led by Police Colonel Phattarawut Onchuay and Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanisorn Huiwetchasart, coordinated the arrest after weeks of surveillance.

The investigation revealed that in 2024 the suspect and several other Cambodian nationals brought their own relatives, young children, to Phuket. They allegedly made the minors beg and sell small items to Thai and foreign tourists around Patong Beach, causing public nuisance and damaging the province’s tourism image.

Authorities gathered witness statements and other evidence before requesting arrest warrants for the group. Once identified, officers tracked the woman down to a rented property in Patong, where she was taken into custody without resistance.

During questioning, the suspect denied all charges. She was informed of the accusations under the court warrant and transferred to Patong Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police say the investigation is ongoing as they continue to search for other members of the child begging network.

Key Takeaways

• A 26-year-old Cambodian woman was arrested for allegedly coercing children to beg on Patong Beach.

• Police believe she is part of a cross-border gang exploiting minors for profit.

• The suspect denied all charges and was handed over to Patong Police for prosecution.

I agree, i find them a nuisance.

So it takes about 10 months to enact an arrest warrant ?
