Hamas Refuses Disarmament Pledge, Seeks 5-Year Gaza Rebuild Truce

Hamas senior official Mohammed Nazzal

Hamas will not commit to disarming until future negotiations and wants a ceasefire lasting three to five years to rebuild Gaza, senior Hamas politburo member Mohammed Nazzal told Reuters on Wednesday — marking the group’s first public timeline for its truce ambitions.

Nazzal said the militant group’s decision on disarmament “depends on the nature of the project,” questioning to whom weapons would even be handed over. Arab diplomats have floated options including turning weapons over to Arab peacekeepers or sealing long-range missiles instead of destroying them.

Under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, Hamas is expected to demilitarize while Israel gradually withdraws from Gaza. The plan envisions a technocratic Palestinian administration under international oversight, with Hamas excluded from governance but offered amnesty.

“Hamas will give a clear answer when we reach phase two of the talks,” Nazzal said, noting that other Palestinian factions — including Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine — must also be consulted.

Pressed on whether the proposed truce period was meant to buy time to rearm, Nazzal denied it: “The goal is not to prepare for the next war. The goal is to rebuild Gaza and restore normal civilian life. That’s our priority.”

He added that if global powers seek future guarantees, they must offer “real hope” of an independent Palestinian state.

Trump has said Hamas’s deployment of security forces across Gaza after the ceasefire was acceptable “to prevent crime,” but reiterated his demand that the group ultimately disarm.

Hamas has ruled Gaza since 2007 following its violent split from Fatah, and reconciliation efforts between the rival Palestinian factions have repeatedly stalled.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hamas says disarmament depends on future talks and outside guarantees.

  • Group wants a 3–5 year truce to rebuild Gaza and hold Palestinian elections.

  • Trump’s peace plan demands Hamas’s demilitarization and exclusion from governance.

Israel should pay for rebuilding Gaza--they did the damage! But only if there is no violence from either side. It will be really hard for Palestinians to trust Israeli rebuilders.

  • Hamas should pay to rebuild Gaza.   So, Palestine agreed, and now they have reneged on the agreement. Why would anyone trust the Palestinians?

Hamas should pay to rebuild Gaza.

To you, the deal isn't worth anything, because the hostages that were returned are worth nothing, because they are Jews, yes?

I would consider it a win for hamas. They returned 20 hostages and got almost 2000 prisoners, many without ever being convicted, in return.

Hostilities will resume soon i fear, since there is no clarity on Gaza's future.

I said nothing about hostages or jews did I, I said peace deal? Again learn to read and comprehend and not gaslight or imply antisemitism were there is none.

You said: "Trumps deal isn't worth anything and hasn't accomplished anything...", but it got the hostages back, so either you are wrong, or you think the hostages are worth nothing. Which is it?

You are truly pathetic

Oh, an insult. You know, “Uneducated people tend to insult and repeat, they don't have the brain power to discuss anything on a normal level and therefore resort to using insults.”

I would like to say I'm surprised, but I knew Hamas is not to be trusted.

Okay, so it's a big win for Hamas, you should be happy, yes?

Why?

Because calling it a win for Hamas discounts any good Trump may have done, yes?

All that really matters is your contempt/hate for Trump and his supporters, correct?

Iran should pay, they started all this, If they don't disarm then leave the place as it is, they seem to like living in a pig sty,

How does the saying go?

"Once bitten, twice shy.."

There are major flaws in your reasoning, no surprise of course.

On top of that, your presumption is incorrect.

Gaza should not be rebuilt. Current Gaza residents should relocate to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Qatar, Iran, and other Islamic countries.  France, Ireland, and Australia are likely interested to welcome some.

Why should they do that? It's their land since centuries.

Tell all the Jews in Israel to relocate instead. They are the aggressors.

Ukraine are the aggressors by that logic

Expand Gaza's border to encompass all of Israel, remove Israelis to countries of their choice, Gazans settle on the land left behind.

Hamas Refuses Disarmament Pledge,Seeks 5-Year Gaza Rebuild Truce

What "pledge."  Neither Hamas or Israel signed anything.  The only people signing pledges was Trump in a meeting in Egypt where neither Hamas or Israel attended. How about both Hamas and Israel disarm?

Build a new Gaza stretching from the West Bank to the sea, bordering Lebanon.

Then the Israelis can build their Mediterranean holiday Riviera where Gaza was.

US of A. There is plenty of them there already. They'll feel right at home. They can permanently curl their sideburns and wear those funny hats.

It must be a psychological burden to carry so much hatred for the Palestinians.

Oct 7 happened as a result of Israeli oppression on Palestinians that began during the 1947-1948 Nakba where ~750,000 Palestinians were forcefully cleared from their villages (their land) by Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi Israelis and relocated to Gaza.  Many of those clearing operations ended in massacres and around 500 Arab villages were cleared and destroyed.
Gaza is a walled concentration camp and Gazan Palestinians are an occupied population.  But?  Nobody studies history or the regional geopolitical realities in Israeli occupied Palestine.  Most Westerns have been brought up on a steady diet of anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian rhetoric.  The result - most Westerners wish to see all Palestinians crushed and deposed.

People hating average Palestinians.  People hating average Israelis. Hate, hate, hate.  Hatred is endemic.  No.  As I Buddhist I don't understand that hatred nor do I accept it.  Again - it must be a hell of a weight to carry, all of that hatred.  :glare:
