A 45-year-old woman was tragically killed when a ten-wheeled truck ran over her motorcycle at a traffic light in Buriram. The collision occurred at around 11:00, on October 20 at the Nang Rong Post Office intersection in Nang Rong district. Police and rescue teams arrived to find the victim, identified as Mrs. Anchalee from Chok Chai district, Nakhon Ratchasima, dead at the scene, having been decapitated, as she was dragged under the wheels.

The Isuzu trailer truck, registration number from Ubon Ratchathani, was found stationary in the middle of the intersection with Anchalee’s Honda motorcycle, trapped underneath. CCTV footage showed the truck waiting at a red light while the victim’s motorcycle was positioned directly in front of the cab. When the light turned green, the lorry began moving slowly to make a U-turn, apparently unaware of the motorcycle.

Despite several nearby motorists honking loudly to alert the driver, the truck continued forward, pushing the motorcycle and its rider several metres before running over her. Additional footage revealed the woman attempting to crawl away from under the lorry, moments before the final fatal impact.

The driver, Mr. Kongphop, 26, from Amnat Charoen province, told investigators he had intended to make a U-turn to refuel at a nearby petrol station. He admitted he did not see the motorcycle in front of him and only realised something was wrong when he felt resistance at the front of the vehicle.

Anchalee’s mother-in-law, Mrs. Toolchai, 68, said the victim had left home to verify her identity for the government’s “Khon La Khrueng Plus” subsidy scheme at Krungthai Bank. She had reportedly visited earlier in the day but returned home after receiving a queue number due to the large crowd, before heading back out again for her second attempt.

Police from Nang Rong Police Station have launched an investigation into the incident and are reviewing CCTV evidence to determine what charges will be filed against the lorry driver. Authorities confirmed that further questioning and forensic examination would follow to establish full responsibility for the fatal collision.

I bet the driver thought he would get a head start jumping in front of the lorry.

The motorcycle was driven by a woman.

I've learned to hate being in the first rank at traffic lights...makes me feel totally vulnerable.  I always try to hold back and find a safe niche

I'm not particularly fond of those lorry drivers with all that embellishment, like those Michelin men here, or chrome mirrors all around, or those rubber mud flaps that stick out 40 cm on both sides.

I suspect that the poor woman manoeuvred to the front of the queue at the traffic lights while the lorry driver had no idea she had done that  could not see her right in front of the cab and well it happened  as has happened many times before..motorcycle or cyclist in the blind spot..can even happen to a car....lots of trucks will have a sticker on the back saying   if you can't see my mirrors then I can't see you.

It would appear she was also in the right-hand lane, as it says the truck moved forward to attempt a U turn.

She couldn't have put herself in a worse position. It's a sad situation but I feel the motorcyclist was clearly in the wrong.

I've done the same thing half a dozen times in the last 24 hours and it makes me nervous every time.

That's how it's done in Thailand.  You move to the front with the other motorbikes or drivers get choked because you're taking up space. The woman was probably parallel to the hood of the truck, rendering her invisible to the driver and unable to escape.

There but for the grace of God go I.

It may be "how it's done" but it's not "how it should be done", as can be seen by the outcome.
