Loy Krathong — Doi Saket

Featured Replies

For the past several years Doi Saket has hosted what I think is the best Loy Krathong event in the Chiang Mai area…and it was FREE!

does anyone know if they are planning to hold it again this year?  I rode my bike around the lakes yesterday (Thursday Oct 22) and I saw no signs of preparations…no stage, no lights.

I believe the festival starts Nov 5 or 6.  Seems like they would be getting prepped.

The event goes on there every year including this year. Not much to prepare it only takes a few minutes for the vendors to pop up their tents.

It has been canceled for the next two years - here's the official announcement.

Haven’t seen any commencement of any construction in the area besides the minor activity at the little hill temple.

I think the "work"  is around the lake where the Choengdoi amphur office is .   Have you been there ?    Nice place to walk around if one lives in Doi Saket.

Of course ,  i like it just the way it is ......... but money must be "spent"

and yes....... no festivities there for a least 2 years

Yes it’s a nice place to walk and do it often there as recently as three or four days ago around the wangpla swamp, and nothing new going on there, no construction or construction material or preparations in the area at all, just the same old fishing folks and the same guys sitting ‘neath the shelters and quiet as ever.

Yes, it's been a couple of weeks since i was there,  but did see some markings along the road side.    "beginning to commence, in Thailand",  can be ???   It is an official announcement however: .."Chiang Doi Subdistrict Municipality would like to inform you that, starting from 2025 onwards, the Lanna Lantern Festival (Puja Phang Prathip) at Nong Bua Phra Chao Luang will be temporarily suspended."

Saw your photo on the show off your gf thread.  She looks nice,  and I was appreciating your hair .  ha ha

When we do walk its usually late morning... fits our schedule and quiet (except for the ever present grass cutter)  .   I guess you are a DS resident ?

Must be those yellow numbered placards that have been there for a few months.

Though she thinks not, she has very poor eyesight and as long as she’s laughing and giggling it’s a good distraction.
