A 30-year-old Thai woman attempted to jump from an overpass in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, on 24 October 2025, with her nine-year-old daughter with her. Police and rescue teams intervened in time, safely bringing both mother and child down from the bridge. The incident caused shock among passing motorists and local residents.

The woman, identified as Ms Ploy, was reportedly intoxicated and emotionally distressed. She repeatedly expressed frustration with her husband, saying, “My husband is awful, I don’t want to live anymore.” Her daughter clung to her legs during the incident, visibly terrified.

The event unfolded at the overpass across the Krathung Lai intersection on Sukhumvit Road. Local witnesses saw the pair and immediately took action, with one driver reversing his car and rushing to help. Police Lieutenant Colonel Suphawat Lattapreecha and rescue personnel from Sawang Boriboon Foundation arrived promptly to manage the situation.

Authorities managed to calm Ms Ploy and ensure the safety of her child. Both were transported to a hospital for further assessment and care. Initial reports suggest that the attempted suicide was driven by a domestic dispute, with the woman expressing anger and despair over her marital situation.

Witnesses praised the swift actions of passersby and emergency responders, which were crucial in preventing a potential tragedy. Police continue to investigate the case and provide support to the family. Social services and medical personnel will evaluate Ms Ploy’s mental health and provide counselling.

Hopefully a wake-up call for the husband to do a better job keeping his wife happy.

Really sad stuff.

The poor kid. It breaks your heart some of the things children go through.

One of the village children came to play with my grandchildren, I knew he lived with his grandmother whilst his mother worked in Korea

I asked him where his father was.

'Dad hanged himself after Mum left him', he told me, almost matter of factly.

He was only 7 and this had happened when he was 5.

I've noticed through my Thai family and their friends that Thais are very childish and immature in their thinking. They laugh at at anything until theyre on the receiving end themselves. I was brought up very street wise and I'm forever chatting my wife about thinking it's funny when people resort to sharing their problems on Youtube and Facebook. I must admit I found it really distressing when the mother involved her 9 yo daughter. My advice to mum, firstly get off the piss and think of your daughter before yourself.

That is not about being on the piss but rather a deep rooted emotional mental illness. That girl is in danger. Some think they'll punish the other parent by killing the child, or in this case themselves also. Her husband just might be awful but it isn't a reason tho hurt your child. That girl needs protection immediately until a full investigation is made. Obviously the mother isn't a candidate for custody so the father might be, or another relative if he is also a danger.

Getting off the piss and a bit if straight thinking would help. I've been around Isaarn women when they throw a wobbly, believe me they are scary any wonder their male partners give them a slap as a wake up call. I've even seen 2 Isaarn female heavy weights punching on like men over a very trivial issue. I must admit a copious amount of Lao Khaow was consumed prior to the punch up.

I've also seen a couple go off over trivial matters, brandishing knives and other weapons and there wasn't any booze involved but plain sickness. Heard about if many times before I ever moved here also, from Thais in the US. Short fuses on quite a few.

Nice try......................but she had already cited her 'bad husband' as the reason for wanting to die,

I bet if you could do some survey amongst an average Thai woman about this then you could see there's nothing racial in this post. Heard many stories about thai guys, very often it is "in fasion" to have 1-2 side woman. Got many thai friends, for most of those guys fidelity is an abstraction.

Even if you have observed certain behaviors in some circles, that doesn’t justify extending those traits to an entire nationality. Culture can influence attitudes toward relationships, but individuals still make their own choices. There are plenty of Thai men who are loyal, generous, and deeply committed partners, just as there are unfaithful or selfish people in every country.

Claiming it’s “not racist because it’s true for most Thai men” is circular reasoning. That’s exactly how stereotypes persist: by taking limited experiences and presenting them as cultural facts. Critiquing specific social norms or discussing relationship expectations in Thailand is totally valid, but labeling an entire group by nationality crosses into racism.

There's a huge need for Thailand to develop mental health services and a community that supports various types of therapies.

Thais rarely ever develop the skills to look within for the source of the problem, or to introspect and analyze the problems that they're facing in life, and this is a huge issue for society as a whole. The fear of looking within, or taking responsibility, and the inability to communicate is a perfect storm for these types of tragedies.

I remember my girlfriend once told me that her mother admitted she had wanted to poison herself, her 12-year-old daughter, and her one-year-old son after divorcing her second husband. Over time — and through my own interactions with her — it became clear that she is bad and indecent person, driven by many dark impulses.

It’s a reminder that behind the fairy tales some people like to believe about “kind and gentle Thai people,” there are individuals with serious emotional and moral issues, just like anywhere else.

Yes. Most Thais are in deep debt. The debt collector shows up and all hell breaks loose. They live off appearances, showing off on social media when they can not afford to pay for their kid's school tuition.
